DeFord Contracting Inc. is looking for an experienced 420 Tractor Backhoe Operator for Civil Construction city projects in and around the Greater Edmonton Area. DeFord is a leading contractor in Edmonton, Alberta, specializing in municipal road projects, subdivision land development, parking lots, and other key infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities:
- Operate a CAT 420 backhoe safely and efficiently in various job site conditions.
- Perform excavation, trenching, and backfilling tasks for municipal, subdivision, and commercial projects.
- Load and unload materials while maintaining job site organization.
- Ensure proper maintenance and daily inspections of equipment to ensure safe operation.
- Work collaboratively with site supervisors, laborers, and other operators to complete projects on schedule.
- Follow all company safety protocols and municipal regulations.
- Identify and report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years experience operating a 420 Tractor Backhoe in a construction or roadwork environment.
- Strong knowledge of excavation techniques, trenching, and grading.
- Familiarity with municipal road projects and subdivision land development; considered an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and site layouts.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Ground Disturbance Level II; preferred.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to OH&S regulations.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment and in all weather conditions.
