Roofing and exterior service technician is a highly skilled tradesperson who inspects, diagnoses, and repairs the outside envelope of a home or building. Technicians focus on finding specific problems, fixing leaks, and performing targeted repairs.
- The Problem Solver: They figure out exactly where water or wind is damaging a home.
- The Customer Liaison: They talk directly to homeowners to explain issues and outline solutions.
Daily Duties: Inspection and Diagnosis
- Locating leaks: Complete interior, attic and roof inspection to locate ingress points.
- Checking for damage: They evaluate homes for wear and tear from wind, hail, or age.
- Taking photos: They document the problem areas before and after the repair for company records and clients.
2. Roofing & Attic Repairs:
- Replacing shingles: Replacing damaged asphalt shingles, cedar shakes, Concrete or metal panels.
- Fixing flashing: They repair the metal borders around chimneys, vents, and valleys
- Flat roof: Complete repairs to SBS, TPO, EPDM, PVC.
- Attics- Complete repairs within attic systems including , exhaust pipes, insulation, vapor barrier, baffles, trusses etc.
3. Exterior Systems Maintenance
- Siding and trim: They mend or replace damaged vinyl siding, Hardie board, and wood trim.
- Soffits and fascia: They service the overhangs and boards underneath the roofline to keep out pests and water.
- Eavestroughs and downspouts: They fix and clean the gutters to ensure rainwater flows away safely from the house foundation.
- Sealants: They apply fresh caulking and weatherproofing around windows, doors, and vents.
4. Safety and Administration
- Setting up safety gear: They use ladders, scaffolding, and fall-protection harnesses to work safely at great heights.
- Managing work orders: They track their tools, list the materials used, and update job notes on smartphones or tablets.
- Site cleanup: They remove old construction debris, nails, and trash so the property stays clean.
Key Skills Needed
- Hand and power tool mastery: Experienced with nail guns, drills, snips, and basic carpentry equipment.
- Physical stamina: Able to lift heavy materials, climb high ladders, and work outdoors in hot or freezing weather.
- Independence: Trusted to handle a company vehicle and complete service calls alone with little supervision
