Who we are
At Berg Chilling Systems, we engineer custom industrial refrigeration solutions that solve complex challenges. Known for innovation and reliability, we've designed and manufactured thousands of systems for customers in more than 50 countries. Our technology supports industries including food and beverage, manufacturing, chemical processing, transportation, construction, natural resources, and defense, delivering precision cooling solutions where performance matters most.
Position Overview
We're looking for an early career Electrical Engineer who is eager to apply engineering theory to real-world challenges. You'll design electrical systems for custom industrial refrigeration equipment while developing expertise in industrial controls, automation, power distribution, and PLC-controlled systems.
Working alongside experienced engineers and cross functional teams, you'll gain hands on experience across the entire product lifecycle, from design and manufacturing to testing, commissioning, and customer support.
What You'll Do
- Design electrical systems for custom industrial refrigeration and process cooling equipment using SolidWorks Electrical.
- Apply strong engineering fundamentals to develop power distribution, motor control, safety, and control circuits that meet Canadian and U.S. electrical codes.
- Select and size electrical components including motors, VFDs, transformers, relays, sensors, and protection devices, understanding how each impacts the overall system.
- Work closely with senior engineers and PLC programmers to ensure your designs support the overall control strategy and integrate seamlessly with mechanical systems.
- Gain hands on experience designing equipment for compressors, pumps, chillers, heat exchangers, and other industrial refrigeration systems while learning how these systems operate together.
- Support manufacturing, factory testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting, helping solve real engineering challenges as products move from design to the field.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by refining designs, improving manufacturability, and developing engineering standards and best practices.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and eligibility for registration as an EIT or P.Eng. in Ontario.
- A strong technical foundation with the ability to quickly learn new systems, technologies, and engineering concepts.
- Approximately 1 to 2 years of experience (including internships or co-op placements) in electrical design, industrial controls, automation, or power systems.
- Understanding of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, motor controls, power distribution, and electrical protection systems.
- Exposure to PLC-controlled equipment and industrial automation with an understanding of how electrical hardware supports control systems.
- Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and/or National Electrical Code (NEC), or the ability to quickly interpret and apply electrical codes.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and service teams.
Nice to Have
- Experience with SolidWorks Electrical or similar electrical CAD software.
- Exposure to industrial refrigeration, HVAC, process cooling, pumping systems, or other industrial equipment.
- Familiarity with PLC platforms such as Schneider or Allen-Bradley.
- Experience with VFDs, motor control centers (MCCs), industrial control panels, or Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365).
- P.Eng. designation or actively working toward professional licensure.
You'll Thrive Here If...
We're looking for more than technical skills. The engineers who succeed at Berg are curious, collaborative, and love solving real-world problems.
- You want to see your designs come to life. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing equipment you've designed built, tested, and operating in the field.
- You take ownership. From the first design discussion through manufacturing, commissioning, and customer support, you care about delivering a great solution.
- You enjoy solving unique challenges. Every project is different, and you're energized by custom engineering rather than repetitive design work.
- You think beyond your discipline. You're interested in understanding the complete system and how electrical, mechanical, controls, all work together.
- You communicate with confidence. Whether you're collaborating with engineers, supporting production, or helping a customer troubleshoot an issue, you can explain technical concepts clearly.
- You're a quick learner. You ask thoughtful questions, connect the dots quickly, and enjoy building expertise as you take on new challenges.
Why Join Berg?
