The Town of East Gwillimbury is currently searching for enthusiastic and dedicated Fitness Instructors to staff our Health & Active Living Plaza opening this fall season. Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator, Fitness Instructors are an integral part of the Recreation and Culture Division. Fitness Instructors are responsible for the planning, implementation, and delivery of assigned programs within the Town of East Gwillimbury. Programs may run year-round or seasonally.
Key Responsibilities Include:

Plan, organize, and deliver high-quality, safe, inclusive, and stimulating programs/classes for participants of varying ages and abilities.

Maintain a friendly, inclusive, accessible, and engaging environment for all participants.

Provide adaptations and modifications to planned exercises/techniques and/or available equipment where appropriate.

Communicate with participants, address questions, concerns, complaints, and suggestions, and relay relevant information to the Recreation Coordinator.

Assist the Recreation Coordinator in ensuring the equipment is safe and well-maintained and report any equipment issues promptly.

Serve as a role model for all participants and Town staff by demonstrating professionalism, positivity, and commitment to high standards of safety and program delivery.

Report all concerns, accidents and incidents to the Recreation Coordinator for follow-up and appropriate action(s).

Respond to emergency situations and perform First Aid and/or arrange for emergency services as needed.

Complete administrative tasks such as attendance, lesson plans, and class statistics.

Attend regularly scheduled in-service training programs and meetings and maintain certifications.

Perform other duties as assigned in accordance with departmental guidelines.
Note: All work activities are expected to be performed in a safe manner, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations, along with Corporate Safety Policies and Procedures. In addition, all necessary personal protective equipment must be used and maintained in good condition.
Qualifications and Requirements:

Demonstrated one to three years’ work experience instructing fitness classes.

Valid fitness certification, preferably CanFit Pro
- Excellent customer service, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Previous experience planning and implementing program plans is an asset.

Ability to manage class and preparation time effectively, ensuring on time arrival for all programs.

Ability to work flexible shifts including days, evenings, and weekends.

Ability/willingness to instruct outdoors.

Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C certificate (WSIB Approved) or willing to obtain prior to employment.

Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
Hourly Rate: $24.96- $37.65
