Hi! We're a family of four looking for a reliable, organized Household Manager to help keep our home running smoothly.
We live in Stittsville, with two teenagers. Both kids have Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and acquired brain injuries, along with significant sensory sensitivities. We four were in a major car accident so we live with chronic pain and cognitive impairments from the injuries. Our household runs best on routine and calm, and we're looking for someone whose presence supports us having a better quality of life. This is not a position for a PSW who focuses on mainly healthcare. We need functional assistance with Housekeeping, and organizing as well. We need someone who is comfortable with fluidity between these roles. We are as interested in the right person with most of what we need than hiring someone who can do everything but doesn’t blend well with our family.
We have a monthly professional cleaning service that handles seasonal deep cleaning. A good candidate would manage the week-to-week rhythm of the house: keeping our spaces tidy and stocked, planning and prepping meals, handling errands and generally making sure nothing falls through the cracks between bigger cleans.
What the role involves
- Light to moderate housekeeping between professional cleanings: kitchen and bathroom upkeep, laundry, and general tidying
- Supporting meal-planning and batch cooking, including freezer-friendly meals that can be reheated through the week
- Grocery shopping and keeping household and personal care supplies stocked
- Support with seasonal organizing and decluttering
- Coordinating with the cleaning service and other providers who come into the home, as needed
- Household administration: errands, keeping supply lists current, and general behind-the-scenes coordination
- A short monthly check-in with us to review what's working and plan the month ahead
About our household
Cultural and sensory awareness both matter a great deal to us, and we'd like any applicant to read this section carefully.
Our family is Canadian and Afro-Caribbean, and we're looking for someone who brings genuine cultural awareness and respect into our home. Comfort with, or openness to learning, the cultural dishes we cook regularly is a real asset for the meal planning side of this role.
One of our teens has significant sound sensitivity and can be easily overwhelmed by noise or unpredictability. This means louder tasks (vacuuming, appliances, and so on) need to be timed thoughtfully around the household's routine rather than run on a fixed schedule regardless of what's happening that day. More broadly, we're looking for someone naturally calm and even-keeled. The energy you bring into the home matters as much as the tasks you complete.
We're looking for someone who
- Is organized and can build and maintain simple systems without needing constant direction
- Is calm, low-key, and mindful of noise and energy levels in the home
- Brings genuine cultural awareness and respect
- Communicates clearly and proactively, flagging issues before they become problems
- Is comfortable with meal planning and batch cooking
- Is trustworthy and discreet, given the role involves regular, independent access to our home
- Holds, or is willing to obtain, a Vulnerable Sector Screening and First Aid Training (covered by us)
- Has a valid driver's licence, useful for errands and shopping
Assets (not required, but valued)
- Experience in household management, personal support work, or home organizing
- Familiarity with neurodivergent or sensory-sensitive households
- Comfort with, or interest in learning, Caribbean cooking
- Openness to somatic or trauma-informed frameworks
