A leading, well-established heavy industrial fabrication and engineering organization based out of Edmonton is seeking a dedicated professional to join their finance team. Known for executing large-scale capital projects, the company maintains an efficient, highly structured, and stable corporate finance environment. This permanent role is focused on managing core operational accounting and payroll functions.
Role Summary
The Senior Accountant ensures financial integrity and transactional accuracy across the organization's core business systems. Operating at the intersection of payroll administration, project sub-ledgers, and general ledger reconciliations, this position is responsible for maintaining thorough internal compliance, data accuracy, and tight corporate control over the engine of these essential financial workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Administration & Compliance
- Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for the workforce using automated ERP modules and standard payroll software.
- Balance and reconcile monthly union payroll submissions and dues allocations in alignment with collective agreements.
- Receive, validate, and process daily operational timesheets.
- Complete all mandatory annual filings with regulatory agencies, including T4s, T2200s, taxable benefits, garnishments, EHT, and WCB within prescribed deadlines.
- Maintain payroll data security and absolute confidentiality at all times.
Cost Control, Operational Accounting & Project Control
- Process vendor invoices using full three-way matching, verification, and automated workflows to maintain disbursement control.
- Coordinate accounts receivable functions, handling monthly client invoices linked to progressive project milestones and Work-in-Progress (WIP) tracking.
- Execute intercompany billing allocations and manage ongoing multi-entity settlements.
- Monitor aging accounts receivable balances and directly resolve customer collections and billing discrepancies.
- Support month-end ledger accuracy, including bank reconciliations, cash receipts, and intercompany account reconciliations.
- Prepare and post all general journal entries to accurately reflect regular adjustments, accruals, and transactional corrections.
- Complete all monthly balance sheet reconciliations to ensure ledger accuracy, including bank accounts, cash receipts, and intercompany accounts.
- Maintain capital asset continuity schedules, calculating and posting monthly journal entries for depreciation, amortization, and lease treatments.
- Actively support company cost control initiatives by preparing audit schedules, compiling supporting working papers, and fulfilling ad hoc operational reporting requests as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- 5+ years of hands-on, full-cycle payroll processing experience.
- Previous experience processing union payroll and managing union dues remittances.
- A post-secondary Diploma in Accounting or Business Administration, backed by relevant corporate industry experience.
- Direct, hands-on experience working within industrial ERP platforms and any standard payroll module. Experience with ADP is an asset.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel capability, with comfort managing data using formulas such as XLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, SUMIFS, CONCATENATE, and MID.
- Experience with Power BI is an asset.
- A Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation is an asset.
- Exceptional attention to detail, a high degree of autonomy, strong organizational skills, and a professional communication style capable of working collaboratively with project managers and other internal departments.
Compensation & Total Rewards
- Salary Range: $70,000 to $80,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
- Vacation: 3 weeks of paid vacation.

Pay: $70,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
