Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounting Manager to join our team. Reporting to the Controller, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day financial operations, supporting the accounting function, and supervising Accounting Clerks within the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable departments.
This position is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced retail environment and demonstrates strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Support
- Supervise and support Accounting Clerks responsible for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions
- Assign work, review accuracy, and ensure timely completion of tasks
- Train team members and assist in improving accounting workflows and processes
Accounts Receivable
- Record and reconcile incoming customer payments
- Monitor outstanding balances and follow up on overdue accounts
- Maintain accurate customer account records
Accounts Payable
- Prepare and schedule weekly EFT payments to vendors
- Process and schedule monthly rent payments
- Maintain accurate vendor records and payment schedules
Bank Reconciliations & Cash Management
- Perform bank account reconciliations on a regular basis
- Reconcile POS sales transactions with bank deposits
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in financial records
General Accounting Duties
- Prepare journal entries related to payroll and company credit cards
- Prepare and file monthly HST and GST returns
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities
- Prepare year-end working papers and documentation for external accountants reporting
- Provide accounting support and financial reporting assistance to the Controller
Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum 3–5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in a retail environment
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and bookkeeping practices
- Previous experience supervising or mentoring staff is considered an asset
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ERP/accounting software
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
