Schilthuis Construction is a family owned and operated construction company based out of Caledonia, who value a collaborative approach to construction to work with the whole construction team, owners and design team to deliver high quality projects that everyone can be proud of. We are continually growing and currently seeking an experienced and motivated Site Superintendent who is like minded and will fit into our team environment and deliver safe and quality projects.
As a Site Superintendent, you will work closely with our Project Manager, Project Coordinator, and Senior Management and work collaborativly with the Owners and Project teams to ensure our projects are delivered safely, on schedule and also to the standards that Schilthuis Construction are known to deliver.
Our work revolves around the ICI market and have also completed a number of affordable housing providers for their new multi-residential buildings which often involve working on tight jobsites, adaptive reuse, historical retrofit and high efficiency building's that are built to Passive House standards which require a lot of attention to detail. We also work with a lot of repeat clients who value our attention to detail and collaboration.
The Superintendent must be capable of completing the project in a quality manner, and maintain the collaborative approach that we have with working with the whole team to deliver a high quality project. It is important as a company that we service the owner at a level equal to or beyond the owner’s expectations for us to maintain our position and reputation in the marketplace.
Responsibilities
- Proactively plan, schedule and manage construction projects and crew.
- Drive progress to meet or improve project milestones and performance.
- Work alongside project managers and project coordinator, Health and Safety Manager
- Coordinate and oversee subcontractors
- Engage and apply policies and procedures for quality control and safety, including planning and inspections.
- Diligently enforce the OHSA and Schilthuis Construction's Health & Safety Policy
- Establish schedules being proactive always.
- Work collaboratively with various team players, including the client, consultants, inspectors, and subcontractors, trades people, field employees, suppliers, and all fellow employees.
- Maintain daily construction records and logs.
Experience
- 7+ years of Site Superintendent experience
- Experience managing multi-residential, industrial, commercial, institutional construction projects up to $30M +.
- Experience in construction projects with various sustainable construction initiatives like Passive House construction
- Completed safety training and have a good track record of safety management.
- Experienced in electronic filing and digital communications and drawing platforms.

- Diploma in Construction Engineering Technician is an asset
- Safety and technical training an asset
- Gold Seal Certified an asset
- LEED certification an asset

- MOL – Supervisor Health & Safety Awareness in 5 Steps Mandatory
- Knowledge of Construction Regulations “The Green Book” and MOL Regulations

- Propane Handling, Accident Investigation, Confined Space training an asset
This is a full time position based in Hamilton and the greater Hamilton area and located within 1 hour of our head office which is located in Caledonia.
