Sobeys is excited to announce the opening of our brand-new Central Kitchen site in British Columbia! We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated sanitation workers to join our opening team.
The Sanitation worker is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and overall appearance of the Sobeys British Columbia Central Kitchen, completing assigned sanitation and cleaning duties across all areas of the site, and actively contributing to a positive, safe, and productive working environment.

- Responsible for performing daily, weekly & monthly projects as outlined on the sanitation reports
- Clean and sanitize production equipment, machinery, and utensils according to assigned schedules using appropriate cleaning and sanitation methods and procedures as outlined in the company's' SSOP's.
- Disassemble and reassemble equipment for thorough cleaning when required.
- Clean floors, walls, drains, and other facility areas using approved cleaning chemicals and tools.
- Report any mechanical defects that cause downtime for the Sanitation Department which will cause the failure to complete the sanitation process on time for the start up of production in the mornings to the Sanitation Manager or Supervisor
- Complete sanitation records, logs, and required documentation accurately.
- Inspect equipment and work areas to ensure cleanliness and readiness for production.
- Follow all food safety, HACCP, GMP, health and safety, and company policies.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Assist with waste disposal and recycling procedures.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to maintain sanitation standards.
- Safe use of cleaning chemicals as trained by sanitation manager/supervisor and according to Safety data sheets.
- Adheres to established facility policies and procedures, including safety rules and safe working practices.
- Other duties as required such as disposal of garbage, organic, cardboard and organization of empty chemical containers.
- Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to lift up to 10-15 kilograms required.
- Ability to work with cleaning chemicals and high-pressure water hoses.
- Previous knowledge of WHMIS is an asset
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend English
- Highly flexible to perform multiple tasks
- Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills

- PPE: Steel toe/heel rubber boots. Boots must be in good, clean repair and always have good tread. Hairnet, Clean smock, Hearing protection, Rubber gloves, Arm sleeves, Safety hats (when applicable), Safety goggles / glasses, rain gear (tops and bottoms)
