JOB DESCRIPTION - RESIDENTIAL CARE WORKER
JOB TYPE: FULL- TIME 2000-2000 (24 HRS SHIFT)
STARTING PAY RATE: $23.73 per hour
MUST HAVE VALID CLASS 5 LICENSE WITH CLEAR DRIVERS'S ABSTRACT
Position Summary
Residential Care Workers (RCWs) provide direct, person-centered support to individuals living in Tuson & Associates’ residential programs. RCWs promote safety, dignity, health, independence, and quality of life through supportive daily living assistance, behavioural support, documentation, and community inclusion.
This position is an essential part of Tuson’s service delivery system and upholds the standards of Tuson’spolicies and procedures.
1. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Personal, Medical, and Health Care Support
RCWs will:
· Provide personal care in accordance with individualized Care Plans, BSPs, and medical instructions.
· Support with all hygiene routines: bathing, peri-care, pull-up changes, toileting, oral care, grooming, hair care, dressing, and continence care.
· Assist with mobility, transfers, positioning, use of lifts, wheelchair safety, and safe handling techniques.
· Prepare meals that follow dietary guidelines, allergies, cultural needs, texture-modified diets, and medical nutrition plans.
· Feed individuals requiring support using safe feeding protocols (e.g., aspiration precautions).
· Administer medications according to Tuson’s Medication Administration Policy, including documentation, error prevention, MAR accuracy, and incident reporting.
· Support with medical equipment (catheters, oxygen, walkers, communication devices).
· Monitor for changes in health, behaviour, or functioning and report concerns immediately to the Team Lead or Program Manager.
· Attend medical, dental, specialist, and allied health appointments and document outcomes.
· Follow infection prevention and control (IPAC) procedures: glove use, sanitation, cleaning, laundry, disposal, and outbreak protocols.
B. Behavioral Support & Communication
RCWs will:
· Implement Behaviour Support Plans (BSP), Safety Plans, and Proactive Support Strategies.
· Use trauma-informed, low-arousal, respectful, and supportive approaches.
· Maintain emotional regulation during escalations and follow crisis response procedures.
· Apply positive behaviour support techniques including redirection, modelling, reinforcement, and sensory regulation.
· Support communication for individuals using verbal, non-verbal, behavioural, or device-based communication (AAC).
· Promote independence, decision-making, and self-advocacy at all times.
· Maintain professional boundaries and respect individual rights, privacy, and cultural considerations.
C. Community Inclusion & Daily Living Skills
RCWs will:
· Support meaningful activities inside the home: art, music, cooking, games, learning, and routines.
· Facilitate safe community outings according to Care Plans: swimming, sports, errands, appointments, recreation, cultural activities, and social activities.
· Encourage development of life skills: hygiene, household chores, communication, self-regulation, budgeting, and social engagement.
· Promote friendships, community networks, and social inclusion.
· Implement and record planned activities created in collaboration with the Team Lead or Program Manager.
D. Safety, Emergency Response & Risk Management
RCWs will:
· Maintain a hazard-free environment and follow Health & Safety protocols.
· Conduct or participate in emergency drills, fire safety procedures, and evacuation plans.
· Assist individuals during emergencies (evacuation, first aid, natural disasters).
· Report hazards, safety risks, and property concerns immediately.
· Follow Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) principles when required.
· Use equipment and lifts safely and follow occupational safety guidelines.
E. Documentation, Reporting & Administrative Tasks
RCWs will:
· Complete all daily logs, shift notes, routines, and activity records on Share Vision.
· Complete Critical Incident Reports (CIR) according to Tuson policies.
· Track and document medical appointments, outcomes, follow-up instructions, and medication changes.
· Complete program expense sheets, receipt attachments, and Client Wallet Record reconciliation.
· Report all changes in health, behaviour, and functioning to the Team Lead/ Manager promptly.
· Maintain confidentiality and follow FOIPPA guidelines.
2. Qualifications & Requirementsa) Educational Requirements
- Completion of Grade 12 including English 12, OR
- Equivalent certification such as a Dogwood Diploma or General Educational Development (GED), OR
- Demonstrated equivalent life and/or work experience, as evaluated through the résumé and interview process.
b) Minimum Age Requirement
- Applicants must be at least 19 years of age at the time of hire.
c) Relevant Experience
- Previous experience working in residential care or with adults with developmental disabilities is preferred.
d) Mandatory Certifications and Records
- A cleared Criminal Record Check from the BC Ministry of Public Safety & Solicitor General (Vulnerable Sector).
- A valid and current First Aid/CPR Certificate.
- Up-to-date Immunization Records, in accordance with public health and organizational safety guidelines.
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s License and a clear Driver’s Abstract if the position involves transporting clients or driving company vehicles.
- Willingness to obtain required certifications, including but not limited to:
· Food Safe Level 1
· WHMIS
· FOIPPA / Privacy & Confidentiality Training
· Additional mandatory training provided by Tuson & Associates Ltd.
3. Working Conditions
· Work in private homes, community settings, and recreational environments.
· Exposure to behavioural challenges, lifting/mobility tasks, and personal care tasks.
· May involve shift work, evenings, weekends, overnights, and statutory holidays.
4. Reporting Structure
RCWs report to the Program Manager and the management team.
5. Role Expectations

Pay: From $23.73 per hour
Work Location: In person
