Lead Carpenter
Valdek Construction Inc. — Winnipeg, MB Full-time, year-round $34–$40/hour
Run the site. Build the project. Skip the headaches. Valdek Construction is a Winnipeg renovation company specializing in home additions, basement renovations, and full home remodels — and we’re hiring a Lead Carpenter to be the top person on our jobsites. No foreman above you. Our project coordinators handle client communication, scheduling, and most material ordering, so your job is what you got into the trade to do: build at a high standard and lead a crew that does the same.
Why this job is different
- $34–$40/hour depending on experience and certification
- Year-round, full-time work — interior projects through the winter. No seasonal layoffs.
- Done at noon on Fridays. 9-hour days Monday–Thursday, 4 hours Friday.
- Weekends are yours. The odd weekend comes up on a deadline, but it’s rare
- You lead the site. You’re the senior person on the job, reporting directly to the owner.
- A real path off the tools: this role is designed to grow into a Project Coordinator position for the right person.
- $500/month vehicle allowance, with a company vehicle planned for this role after hiring
- Benefits after 90 days — dental, drug, and health practitioner coverage (75% employer paid) — plus sick days
- $500/year tool allowance after 90 days, and Valdek-branded work wear
- Crew meetings in-house every third Friday — your input shapes how we build
What you’ll do
- Run the day-to-day build: plan the daily and weekly attack, sequence the work, and keep the project on or under budget
- Own quality control — the work leaves the site right the first time because it was planned right before it started
- Lead and mentor the crew: assign duties, teach, pass on knowledge, and hold the standard
- Read and interpret blueprints and designs, apply building code, and turn drawings into an action plan
- Perform skilled carpentry: framing, insulation, drywall, trim, cabinets, doors and hardware, and finishing work
- Coordinate with our project coordinators on materials, timelines, and site needs — they handle the client calls and ordering so you can build
- Keep the site clean, safe, and orderly; care for tools and equipment and report any damage immediately
Who we’re looking for
- 5+ years of carpentry experience with a wide range of residential renovation work; finish carpentry is a strong asset
- Red Seal certification or equivalent experience strongly preferred (top of the wage range reflects certification and proven leadership)
- Proven ability to run a site or crew — or a senior carpenter clearly ready to step up
- Plans ahead: anticipates outcomes, sees problems before they cost money
- Takes pride in craft and genuine satisfaction in a quality product
- Punctual, respectful, presentable, and driven to keep learning
- Class 5 driver’s licence and a reliable vehicle capable of transporting tools and occasional materials (until the company vehicle is in place)
Who we are
Our team is passionate about growth, innovation, and doing the job right. These are the values we hire for and hold each other to:
- OWNERSHIP — We take responsibility for making things better, not just getting through the day.
- QUALITY — We do the job right the first time because we planned it right before we started.
- WE SHOW UP — We show up prepared so execution is smooth, safe, and efficient.
