Under the direction of the Secretary-Treasurer, the Transportation Manager is responsible for leading the Division’s transportation system, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of student transportation services. This role oversees all transportation operations, including routing, fleet management, maintenance, safety programs, and staff supervision. The Transportation Manager supervises approximately 90+ regular school bus routes, 2 bus garages, and transportation staff, including drivers, mechanics, and clerical employees. The successful candidate will provide strong leadership to a large, unionized workforce while ensuring effective service delivery, regulatory compliance, and continuous system improvement.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and supervise transportation staff, including performance management and labour relation
- Oversee day-to-day transportation operations and service delivery
- Manage and optimize transportation routes and systems
- Oversee fleet maintenance, safety, and regulatory compliance
- Develop and manage departmental budgets and resources
- Respond to operational issues, service disruptions, and stakeholder concerns
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Minimum Grade 12 education, with additional training in the areas of operational management, including planning, scheduling and service delivery
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience with Management
- Demonstrated leadership experience supervising and managing a diverse workforce in a unionized environment
- Proven ability to lead performance management and employee relations
- Experience managing budgets and operational planning
- Knowledge of applicable legislation/regulations (e.g. Public Schools Act, Highway Traffic Act, Workplace Safety and Health Act, and School Buses Regulation) or ability to acquire this knowledge quickly
- Experience managing competing priorities in a dynamic environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Work, Excel, Power Point and Outlook)
- Experience in transportation, logistics, or fleet management is considered an asset
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License & Reliable Transportation
SALARY RANGE:
- $101,059 to $109,389 commensurate with experience and qualifications
