North America-based Axiom Material Handling Solutions is seeking a Project Coordinator/Estimator to join their team.
Job Purpose: As a Project Coordinator Estimator, you’ll support pre-construction and sales by producing accurate estimates, preparing bids, coordinating with clients, and ensuring a smooth project handoff. Typical scopes include supply and installation of conveyors, fabricated parts, racking, guarding, mezzanines, and ASRS. This role suits someone detail-oriented, commercially minded, and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Participate in customer meetings and engage technically to understand project requirements.
- Develop detailed takeoffs, budgets, and proposals for material handling projects, covering installations, demolitions, equipment, fabrication, and subcontracts.
- Prepare and present clear, competitive quotations that align with client expectations and project goals.
- Contribute to market analysis and competitive positioning by maintaining up-to-date regional pricing and market intelligence to strengthen estimates.
- Travel as needed within Canada and the USA to support estimating and project handovers.
- Identify and communicate risks, technical gaps, and assumptions within RFQs/RFPs.
- Liaise with internal design teams, contractors, and fabrication partners to ensure clarity of scope and buildability.
- Prepare turnover documentation to support smooth handover to project management teams.
- Support Project Managers by clarifying estimate details and responding to questions throughout the project lifecycle to ensure alignment between estimates and scopes.
- Support awarded projects through site walks, kick-off meetings, and early-stage planning.
- Represent the company professionally at industry events and client meetings.
- Identify risks and opportunities in bid documents and communicate recommendations to leadership.
Skills/Qualifications:
- 2+ years experience in construction, industrial fabrication, or material handling systems (estimating, project coordination, or sales).
- Experience preparing takeoffs and cost estimates for mechanical systems or structural steel is a strong asset.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel across Canada and the U.S. occasionally.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; experience with estimating/project planning software (e.g., WrightPlan, Bluebeam) preferred.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, or MS Project is an asset.
- Journeyperson certification or technical diploma/degree in construction, mechanical engineering, or a related field is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to coordinate across departments, clients, and subcontractors.
- Clear and professional verbal and written communication.
- Analytical thinking with attention to detail and a sense of urgency.
- Works effectively in both field and office environments; able to interpret technical drawings.
