Torus Talent is seeking a Financial Analyst with experience supporting an e-commerce, retail, or consumer products business on behalf of our rapidly growing Vancouver-based client. This role will work closely with Finance, Marketing, Sales, and Operations to improve financial visibility, evaluate business performance, and provide data-driven recommendations that support profitable growth.
The successful candidate will combine traditional financial planning and analysis with marketing and commercial analytics. They will use tools such as NetSuite, Polar Analytics, Shopify, Amazon, Excel, and other reporting platforms to develop forecasts, assess performance, build dashboards, and translate complex data into practical insights for management.
- Support the annual budgeting process, rolling forecasts, cash flow projections, and longer-term financial planning.
- Develop financial models to evaluate strategic initiatives, pricing decisions, investment opportunities, and business scenarios.
- Analyze revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, profitability, and cash flow performance against budgets and forecasts.
- Identify emerging trends, financial risks, performance gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare monthly management reporting packages, KPI scorecards, dashboards, and executive-level financial summaries.
- Provide recommendations that improve profitability, resource allocation, and operational efficiency.
- Support business planning through sensitivity analysis, scenario modelling, and financial business cases.
- Partner with the Marketing team to evaluate spending, campaign effectiveness, and alignment with broader financial objectives.
- Measure return on marketing investment across paid media, customer acquisition, retention, and promotional channels.
- Monitor and report on key commercial and marketing metrics, including:
- Customer acquisition cost
- Customer lifetime value
- Return on marketing investment
- Contribution margin
- Customer retention and churn
- Customer cohort performance
- Campaign attribution
- Media mix effectiveness
- A/B testing results
- Analyze customer purchasing behaviour, acquisition trends, repeat purchases, and retention patterns.
- Evaluate the financial impact of promotions, pricing changes, product launches, and channel-specific initiatives.
- Assess performance across Shopify, Amazon, subscription, and other direct-to-consumer sales channels.
- Provide financial insights that support marketing strategy, budget allocation, and revenue growth planning.
- Combine and analyze financial, operational, customer, and marketing data from multiple systems.
- Build and maintain dashboards, management reports, and KPI scorecards using Polar Analytics and other business intelligence tools.
- Present findings and recommendations to senior management in a clear and commercially relevant manner.
- Support cross-functional initiatives with financial modelling, performance analysis, and business case development.
- Identify opportunities to improve data quality, reporting consistency, and access to timely business information.
- Translate large and complex datasets into actionable insights for Finance, Marketing, Sales, and Operations.
- Use NetSuite, Polar Analytics, Excel, Shopify, Amazon, and related reporting tools to improve financial analysis and business reporting.
- Participate in the development and implementation of new dashboards, reporting capabilities, and analytical processes.
- Help automate recurring reports and reduce reliance on manual data preparation.
- Maintain the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of financial and operational data across reporting systems.
- Recommend improvements to analytical tools, workflows, controls, and reporting procedures.
- Assist with month-end and year-end reporting through analytical reviews, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Investigate unusual variances, trends, or inconsistencies within financial results.
- Support audit requests and the preparation of financial reporting documentation.
- Ensure analysis and reporting activities comply with company policies, internal controls, and applicable accounting standards.
- Complete additional financial analysis, reporting, and special projects based on evolving business priorities.
- Experience in financial planning and analysis within an e-commerce, retail, consumer products, or subscription-based business.
- Strong experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial modelling.
- Exposure to marketing analytics, customer acquisition economics, and digital-channel performance measurement.
- Experience analyzing Shopify, Amazon, subscription, or other online sales channels.
- Familiarity with metrics such as CAC, LTV, ROMI, contribution margin, retention, churn, and cohort performance.
- Experience creating management dashboards and KPI reporting using Polar Analytics, Power BI, Tableau, or similar business intelligence platforms.
- Strong Excel skills and experience working with large datasets from multiple sources.
- Experience with an ERP platform, ideally NetSuite.
- Ability to communicate financial and operational insights to non-finance stakeholders.
- Previous experience in a fast-growing or rapidly scaling organization.
- A commercially minded, analytical, and hands-on approach to problem-solving.
