The Natural Resources Conservation Board (NRCB) is hiring two Agricultural Permitting Officers (Approval Officers) in Red Deer, Alberta.
This is a unique opportunity to step into a legislated decision-making role under Alberta’s Agricultural Operation Practices Act (AOPA) – where your work directly supports responsible agricultural development, environmental protection, and municipal planning requirements across the province.
Working both independently and with a team of professionals across Alberta, you will review applications for confined feeding operations involving environmental assessment, regulatory compliance, and land-use planning considerations.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the review and decision-making process for applications under AOPA
- Ensure applications meet the requirements of applicable legislation, regulations, and NRCB policies
- Evaluate technical and environmental information related to confined feeding operations
- Collaborate with municipalities, provincial ministries, and stakeholders to support a coordinated review process
- Engage with livestock producers and industry representatives
- Exercise professional judgment in issuing permit decisions under AOPA
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, agriculture, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a regulatory, environmental, or related field
- Strong understanding of regulatory processes and legislative interpretation
- Knowledge of agriculture and environmental risks related to the livestock industry
- Excellent analytical thinking, decision-making, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
Compensation & Work Environment
- Salary: $85,687 to $117,820, based on experience and qualifications
- Comprehensive benefits package and defined contribution pension plan
- Full-time, permanent position based in Red Deer, Alberta
- Eligible for NRCB’s hybrid work arrangement (up to 2 days remote per week)
