Director of Operations
SUMMARY OF POSITION: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Operations is responsible to provide executive and managerial services for the Membership Services, Indian Registry, Post Secondary, Youth Development, Jordan’s Principle, Income Support, Four Pillars, Fleet Management and Office Management and their associated managers and staff. This position will work with other Directors to maintain efficient operations of the organization. This position is a key position overseeing the administration’s day-to-day operations, administrative direction, and core functions. The job includes participating as a member of the organization’s leadership with concerns towards policy and fiscal development and planning.
DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:
- Work strategically and cooperatively with other high-level, highly motivated directors and managers.
- Analyze, implement and communicate organizational needs and change.
- Engage in regular, structured discussions with other directors and managers to encourage and enhance organization strategic objectives.
- Work with others to encourage collaborative relationships with the organization and resolve conflicts where needed.
- Promote an inclusive environment that exemplifies an appreciation and acceptance of cultural diversity and differences.
- Work with others to provide in-house support, coaching, encouragement and direction.
- Utilize resources such as staff, partners, materials and other organizational resources effectively and with foresight of budgets and funding.
- Monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of departmental program delivery, planning and budgeting
- Think strategically about the direction and focus of the organization.
- Develop a clear and firm understanding of the vision, values and objectives of the organization.
- Ensure relevant information is shared with the community and broader public, and incorporate member feedback in order to improve engagement
- Support the negotiations of financial services agreement with external partners and entities
- Ensure appropriate policy and renewal for all areas within the Operational function
- Be part of the senior leadership team in developing the annual budget for submission
- Provide daily effective fiscal management, which includes ensuring compliance with all relevant First Nation, federal and provincial legislation
- Oversee and promote due processes that seek additional external funding and grants
- Identify, where appropriate within the scope of the position, opportunities to improve programming and service delivery
- Implement goals, programs and new initiatives in a manner that aligns with the strategic direction and long-term planning of the organization.

- Ensure team members have annual work plans that support and align with the vision and strategic plan to ensure programs and services delivered evolve and adapt to meet new, ongoing, and future needs
- Ensure team members complete annual performance management process
- Ensure training and professional development plans are completed for team members
- Ensure succession plans are in place
- Coach and mentor direct reports to improve performance
- Develop new and unique ways to improve operations of the organization and to create new opportunities.
- Determine strategies to move the organization forward, set goals, create, and implement actions plans, and evaluate the process and results.

- Ability to make well informed and thought-out decisions that support the overall organization utilizing risk management and other skills.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
- Excellent time management skills, prioritizing, planning, organizing and implementing task.
- Highly developed ability to effectively manage multiple issues and files
- Highly computer literate
- Knowledge of First Nation history and culture
- Ability to undertake budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting
- Strong project management and organizational abilities, including delegation skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including public speaking
- Demonstrated ability to lead a diverse team
- Understand ethical behaviour and business practices and ensure that own behaviour and the behaviour of others is consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization.
- Flexible and able to adjust to changing working environment and situations
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Management Studies, Commerce, Indigenous Studies or an equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge and experience.
- Minimum five (5) years senior level management experience.
- Demonstrated success in leading change and service transformation.
- Experience working for a First Nation organization is preferred.
- Must submit a pre-employment drug screening and Criminal Record Check prior to commencement of employment.
Pay: $100,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
