Reporting to the Manager, Community Relations, the Alumni Relations & Community Engagement Specialist supports Concordia University of Edmonton’s mission to deepen lifelong alumni engagement and strengthen external partnerships with community stakeholders. This role coordinates alumni programming, community outreach initiatives, and event planning while implementing strategic communications and stewardship initiatives that encourage alumni to become active supporters and donors.
Responsibilities:
Alumni Engagement & Stewardship
- Develop and execute a comprehensive alumni communications strategy to keep alumni informed, engaged, and connected to CUE. This includes newsletters, email campaigns, social media, and targeted outreach.
- Build and maintain a stewardship framework that nurtures alumni relationships, tracks engagement, and identifies opportunities for involvement and support.
- Collect and share alumni testimonials, success stories, and impact narratives to strengthen the emotional connection between alumni and CUE.
- Leverage achievements of alumni to craft compelling stories that highlight their impact, reinforce CUE’s strategic priorities, and inspire engagement, advocacy, and support for the University.
- Utilizes alumni engagement metrics to identify and transition highly engaged alumni to the Donor Engagement Specialist for future philanthropic cultivation.
- Serve as the primary institutional liaison for the Concordia Alumni Association (CAA), with the long-term goal of strategically reconstructing and onboarding a revitalized CAA Executive Board.
- Collaborate with development and communications teams to align alumni programming with fundraising priorities, including campaigns, major gifts, and annual giving.
Community Engagement
- Serve as a primary point of contact for community stakeholders, representing CUE at local meetings, events, and partnership activities.
- Build relationships with community organizations, employers, cultural institutions, and civic partners to enhance CUE’s visibility and reputation.
- Provide assistance and contribute to other Community Relations initiatives and projects as needed to support departmental goals and strategic priorities.
- Collaborate across the team to ensure alignment and consistency in alumni, community, and engagement activities.
- Step in to support events, communications, or campaigns outside of core responsibilities when required.
Event Planning & Execution
- Lead logistics and coordination for alumni and community-focused events, including mentorship, networking, advocacy, and engagement initiatives.
- Evaluate and report on event outcomes, participation metrics, alumni satisfaction, and engagement impact.
Communications & Marketing Support
- Collaborate with communications and marketing teams to create compelling alumni and community content.
- Support campaigns and storytelling that highlight alumni achievements, student impact, community involvement, and University milestones.
- Administer and market the portfolio of alumni affinity and benefit programs, maintaining strategic relationships with corporate partners (including TD Insurance) to maximize value for graduates, while overseeing the production and distribution of official membership materials.
Data & Reporting
- Maintain accurate alumni and engagement records within institutional databases, ensuring updates, segmentation, and metrics tracking to inform engagement strategies and donor stewardship.
- Other relevant duties as assigned by the Manager, Community Relations.
Requirements:
- Completion of a post-secondary degree in communications, public relations, marketing, business, or a related field is required.
- Three to five years of relevant experience in alumni relations, student or community engagement, non-profit, fundraising, communications, or event/program coordination is required.
- Experience in a post-secondary institution or non-profit environment is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, take proactive initiative, and manage shifting priorities, while maintaining a strong commitment to working collaboratively within an integrated advancement team, is required.
- High degree of resourcefulness and creativity, with a proven track record of maximizing resources to build or revitalize community engagement initiatives, is required.
- Exceptional organizational skills and a high attention to detail, paired with excellent customer service and public relations skills to represent the university positively, is required.
- Experience using alumni/member databases or CRM systems is an asset.
- Ability to pass a clear criminal record check is required.
- A valid class 5 drivers license is preferred.
