The Manufacturing Engineer will review product design and manufacturing processes for the purpose of reducing and controlling costs through the analysis of labour and material. The incumbent will interact with various departments to give technical support and recommendations for the provision of adequate tools, equipment and methods to produce the most profitable product at the highest quality and safety standard.
Responsibilities:
- Lead/plan projects to implement necessary changes in methods, machines used, and layout process to simplify the manufacturing process, reduce costs and ensure optimum product design.
- Analyze and make recommendations regarding current manufacturing sequence of operations through the use of Value Stream Mapping.
- Document procedural guidelines, inclusive of work instructions, time standards, bills of materials, and ensure accessibility in the relevant languages.
- Integrates multiple approaches to trouble-shoot production and process problems: investigate and implement solutions to problems associated with manufacturing documentation, print tolerances, and engineering design.
- Conduct relevant market research and adopt benchmark tools regarding similar manufacturing processes, equipment and technology used within the industry to ensure ongoing process improvement and technological advancement.
- Develop methods to measure and control quality of manufactured products, ensure labour efficiency, reduce/minimize material waste.
- Work with maintenance department to implement preventive maintenance systems and techniques, document procedures that will encompass regular scheduled maintenance of equipment, tools and fixtures to ensure optimum reliability plant wide.
- Lead/develop cost reduction programs that will include tracking systems to monitor all projects to completion, identification of waste.
- Liaise with vendors by developing specifications and participating in the design and commissioning of new equipment and/or installations.
- Work with the design group to provide all the support needed for prototyping, introduction of new products within relevant product cost guidelines; participate in the review process of new product design to ensure productivity; assist in product standardization; and the implementation of new product into production.
Qualifications:
- B.Sc. in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering
- Professional Engineer of Ontario Designation (P. Eng.) required.
- Minimum of five (5) years‘ experience as a Manufacturing Engineer in a manufacturing/industrial environment with an emphasis on high volume, high mix manufacturing process (wood furniture or cabinetry experience a definite asset).
- Proven project management/cross functional relationship skills
- Experience in defining time standards is an asset; process balancing; process controls; cost reduction projects; budgeting; implementation of new products; equipment purchase/selection.
- Proven experience in the use of lean manufacturing tools such as Kanban, Poka Yoke, Kaizan, JIT, 5 S’s, Visual Factory, Total Product Maintenance (TPM), Cellular manufacturing, Value Stream Mapping
- Experience in a Six Sigma environment is an asset
- Very analytical and structured approach to problem solving
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with all members of the organization
- Excellent time management skills

Pay: $90,000.00-$110,000.00 per year
