The Awards and Financial Aid office at the University of Winnipeg provides service and support to 10,000+ current undergraduate, graduate and certificate/diploma students each year. The awards office administers a large portfolio of scholarships, bursaries and prizes, while also overseeing provincial and federal student aid for the university.
The Awards and Financial Aid Officer is a full-time continuing role responsible for providing front-line service, information and support to future and current students on all aspects of the university’s awards program and government financial aid.
Responsibilities:
- Responds to all inquiries from students and the public regarding student awards and financial aid.
- Provides accurate information on all services and programs offered by the Awards office, including: application and eligibility requirements, key dates and timelines; administration of award and student aid funds.
- Provides timely, accurate, and student-centered referrals to other areas of the university as required.
- Responsible for creating and delivering various types of formal correspondence and reports, including: award letters and certificates, student mail-outs and newsletters, website updates; confirmations of enrollment and eligibility; inter-departmental reports and correspondence.
- Represents the Awards Office and the university at various recruitment and student outreach events.
- Develops and delivers in-person and online presentations for prospective and current students, parents and the general public on various topics related to awards, financial aid and student financial literacy.
- Performs all duties and tasks according to FIPPA/PHIA legislation and UWinnipeg policies related to student privacy and confidentiality.
- Acts as a signing authority for provincial and federal student aid programs, US Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and for other internal and external transactions relating to awards and financial aid.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree, diploma, or certificate preferred; equivalent post-secondary administrative experience may be considered.
- Two years related administrative experience in a post-secondary office environment is preferred; similar administrative experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of university regulations, programs and policies as they relate to academic and student services departments is preferred.
- Knowledge of administrative processes and policies related to student awards and government student aid programs is preferred.
- Either professionally or as a student, knowledge of or experience with scholarships and bursaries, degree programs and requirements, or government student aid is an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong public speaking abilities required.
- Experience developing and delivering workshops and presentations preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) with the ability to perform data analysis using Excel and other types of reports (e.g. use of formulas, perform validation and verification) required.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft365 applications, particularly Excel, would be an asset.
- Experience with Ellucian Colleague, Blackbaud Awards Management System, or other UWinnipeg software is preferred; experience with student information and records systems from other institutions is an asset.
- Must have strong interpersonal, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills. Tact, diplomacy and a student-centered approach are required.
- Superior organizational skills are required, as well as the ability to manage competing tasks and perform under pressure.
- Able to work with others in a positive, collaborative and supportive manner.
- Have a genuine interest in student success and be able to establish positive relationships with students and staff from diverse backgrounds.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.

An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.
Condition(s) of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Must be willing to work occasional evenings and/or weekends as schedules demand.
- Occasional work off-campus within the city of Winnipeg may be required.
The salary range for this position will be from $48,648.60 to $68,741.40 annually.
