Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Controls Engineer to support our operations. This role is ideal for someone who can take direction from the lead engineer, work closely with electricians on the floor, and independently execute controls tasks, checkout, and commissioning activities with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Support automation projects from installation through buy-off, following standards and procedures, including processes and verification.
- Work side by side with electricians to perform I/O checks, device verification, safety circuit validation, and functional checks using structured checklists and standardized work.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues on presses, destackers, transfer/blanking lines, robots, and associated automation, using PLC/HMI tools and solid electrical fundamentals to minimize downtime.
- Implement minor PLC/HMI changes as directed (tagging, I/O mapping, interlock logic, alarm handling, fault recovery improvements) while maintaining documentation and version control.
- Review and update electrical drawings and panel layouts in coordination with engineering and maintenance, ensuring changes are reflected in schematics and device lists.
- Participate in safety risk assessments and support compliance with OHSA, safety policies, and applicable standards for stamping equipment.
- Execute and document controls checklists, Build and functionality verifications, and PSR/PHSR-related actions as required by standards and plant procedures.
- Provide clear communication and status updates to the lead controls engineer, production, and maintenance on open issues and completed work.
Basic Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Controls, Robotics, or related engineering discipline.
- 3+ years of experience in an automotive or high-volume manufacturing environment working with industrial automation and controls.
- Practical experience with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs (Logix family, FactoryTalk View, or equivalent), including basic logic troubleshooting and simple code modifications.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, panel drawings, and device wiring diagrams.
- Demonstrated experience working directly with skilled trades (electricians or maintenance) on equipment checkout, troubleshooting, and repairs.
- Strong understanding of industrial safety devices (light curtains, safety relays/PLCs, interlocks, e-stops) and lockout/try procedures.
- Comfortable working on the plant floor in a high-paced production environment, including off-shift or weekend support as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in stamping, presses, or other high-tonnage equipment (mechanical or servo) and associated automation.
- Familiarity with Controls standards and manufacturing systems.
- Exposure to robotics (Fanuc or similar) in a press or material handling environment.
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or similar tools for controls documentation.
- Background in structured problem solving, FMEA, or continuous improvement on the plant floor.

Pay: $45.00-$65.00 per hour
