Your Opportunity
As an Electrical Engineer in Training for our Dartmouth/Moncton office, you will work under the guidance of a Senior Engineer on typically small and average-sized projects, with the potential to support on larger projects. You will participate in the evaluation, recommendation, and specification for engineered systems or products for a project verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards / practices.
Your Key Responsibilities
Design-Oriented:
- Prepare site plans, floor plans, diagrams, risers, schedules and details to adequately describe areas of project scope.
- Engage in the development of electrical design through sketches, electronic models and diagrams.
- Support in the evaluation, selection of electrical, communications and life-safety systems or products for a project and assuring work is reviewed for overall technical accuracy
- Support the preparation of project specification documents.
- Perform and oversee the development of calculations using company standard design tools and proprietary manufacturer software as required.
- Participate in project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
Quality Assurance:
- Gain awareness of and adhere to Stantec’s internal quality control procedures.
- Collaborate in person or remotely with team members, other Stantec disciplines and clients to achieve project success, acting as a project team member.
Construction Support
- Respond to contractor queries (typically via RFI/SI/CD process)
- Evaluating proposed products for compliance via shop drawing review.
Internal Coordination:
- Provide input on multiple projects with overlapping demands and deliverables.
Areas of Knowledge for Development:
- Knowledge of and ability to implement major electrical-related standards (Canadian Electrical Code, National Building Code of Canada etc.).
- Ability to apply basic electrical theory and principals.
Personal Skills:
- Must be self-motivated, team oriented, efficient, and a good communicator. Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills. Bilingual (English and French) would be a major asset.
- Understanding the importance of complying with Stantec's Employee Health and Safety (EH&S) program, with a focus on safety in the field.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel within the maritime provinces (typically day-trips, but some overnight travel may be required as well).
Team-based Skills:
- Desire to be mentored by Senior staff and to adapt to feedback as required.
- Strong collaborative skills while working with a single or multi-discipline team.
Software Skills:
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word and Excel primarily).
- Experience in Revit and/or AutoCAD would be considered an asset.
- Experience in dedicated lighting design tools (AGI32 or others) would be considered an asset.
- Comfort with electrical design tools (feeder sizing, conduit fills, generator sizing etc.) will be developed as part of the position.
Education and Experience
- An Electrical Engineering Degree from an accredited university is required.
- Eligibility for registration as an Engineer in Training or a Professional Engineer in the local engineering professional association required.
- Minimum of 1 year of applicable experience is required.
- Experience in creating tender document packages, including detailed drawings and specifications, would be considered an asset.
Work Location
Typical office environment includes working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
