Job Title: Shop General Laborer / Welder Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Shop General Laborer / Welder to support our fabrication team. This versatile role balances material preparation, general shop support, and production welding. The ideal candidate is a team player who is equally comfortable prepping steel, maintaining a clean shop environment, and executing high-quality MIG welds from blueprints.
Key Responsibilities Welding
- MIG Welding: Perform high-quality MIG welding tasks on structural steel and various metal components.
- Blueprint Reading: Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, welding symbols, and schematics to execute accurate assemblies.
- Metal Shaping: Use plasma cutters, and other specialized shop tools to cut and shape metal pieces to specification.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished welds and parts to ensure they strictly meet shop quality standards and welding codes.
- Material Handling: Safely operate overhead cranes, rigging equipment, and forklifts to move, flip, and stage heavy steel fabrications throughout the shop floor.
Material Prep & Shop Labor
- Post-Weld Prep: Prepare fabricated steel for the painting stage using grinders, wire wheels, and provided finishing tools.
- Fitter Support: Stage, organize, and prep raw materials for fitters and senior welders to maintain a smooth production flow.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate welding machines, cutting tools, and other shop equipment.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with supervisors and team members to complete custom fabrication projects safely and on time.
- Material Handling: Safely operate overhead cranes, rigging equipment, and forklifts to move, flip, and stage heavy steel fabrications throughout the shop floor.
Physical Requirements
- Perform heavy physical labor including lifting, hauling, bending, crouching, kneeling, and gripping tools for extended periods.
- Safely lift and maneuver heavy metal materials and components throughout the shop floor.
- Stand for the duration of an 8.5-hour shift in a loud, active industrial shop environment.
Experience & Qualifications
- Welding Experience: Proven background working as a production or shop welder.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of MIG welding techniques, metal properties, and fabrication equipment.
- Tool Proficiency: Mechanical aptitude with solid experience using various hand tools, power tools, grinders, and saws.
- Blueprint Literacy: Demonstrated ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and technical drawings.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $20.00-$26.00 per hour
