Summary
Conductor manages all switching operations within a private rail yard. This role coordinates closely with the Engineer and plant personnel to ensure efficient movement of product through the facility and maintain an organized, safe yard environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and manage all yard switching operations.
- Coordinate with plant operators to maintain product flow through the facility.
- Keep the yard organized and ensure cars are positioned correctly.
- Spot cars into and out of the facility as required.
- Pull loads/empties from the facility for outbound preparation.
- Build lifts for collection by Class 1 railway.
- Provide clear, concise radio instructions to the Locomotive Engineer.
- Ensure compliance with all safety rules and operating procedures.
Work Environment & Schedule
- Shift hours vary depending on location.
- Driving to site locations will be required.
- Outdoor, industrial environment with exposure to weather and rail‑related hazards.
- Compensation for travel to site if required.
Qualifications
- Fluent with CROR (Canadian Railway Operating Rules)
- Experience in rail switching operations preferred.
- Strong communication and situational awareness.
- Ability to plan and organize yard movements efficiently.
- Physically capable of climbing, walking uneven surfaces, and working in all weather conditions.
- Knowledge of railway safety.
Pay: $27.00-$30.00 per hour
