Position Summary
The Facilities & Event Operator supports daily building readiness by preparing rooms, completing room turnovers, supporting event setups, and helping ensure spaces are clean, organized, safe, accessible, and ready for programs, rentals, meetings, and events. As part of the Facilities team, this hands-on, setup-focused role provides practical support for room setups, turnovers, event readiness, and basic facilities support, including basic audiovisual (A/V) setup, cleanliness oversight, and overall building presentation. This role will also work closely with experienced building operators to learn broader facility operations over time and build the skills needed to support additional facility tasks as training, experience, and operational needs allow.
Schedule Information
· Full-time (40 hours/week), salaried.
· Schedule may include mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, occasional special events, and occasional urgent facility support outside regular hours, as directed by the Director, Operations.
· This position is an in-person role and requires working on-site.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Facility & Event Operations
- Review daily and weekly setup requirements, schedules and changes, room bookings, event needs, and changes to ensure spaces are prepared accurately and on time.
- Set up, reconfigure, and tear down meeting rooms, program spaces, event venues, and rental areas by arranging tables, chairs, furniture, equipment, podiums, and supplies in accordance with event requirements.
- Complete room turnovers between programs, meetings, rentals, and events, ensuring each space is clean, safe, accessible, and ready for its next use.
- Support the successful delivery of programs and events by responding promptly to set-up adjustments and operational requests.
Audio-Visual Support
- Support with basic A/V equipment set up, testing, and troubleshooting, including projectors, screens, monitors, microphones, speakers, podiums, cables, and adapters.
- Escalate complex A/V, network, livestreaming, theatre, or technical production issues to the appropriate internal or external support resources.
Building Operations
- Conduct regular building rounds to identify and report maintenance issues, safety hazards, cleanliness concerns, service interruptions, and facility deficiencies.
- Work alongside experienced building operators to learn building systems, daily facility routines, maintenance procedures, equipment checks, and broader facility support tasks.
- Help maintain the overall presentation and operational readiness of public spaces, program rooms, event venues, back-of-house areas, and exterior entrances.
- Complete assigned work orders, general repairs, maintenance tasks, and other facility support responsibilities, as trained and assigned.
- Monitor the condition of furniture, setup equipment, AV accessories, carts, and operational supplies, reporting damaged, unsafe, or low-stock items.
Cleanliness & Safety
- Perform routine cleanliness inspections of program and event spaces, reporting service gaps and coordinating follow-up with the contracted cleaning provider as required.
- Support pool deck readiness and complete assigned pool deck maintenance duties, as trained and assigned, while reporting any pool, whirlpool, mechanical, chemical, or public health concerns to the Facility/HVAC Operator and Director, Operations.
- Participate in emergency preparedness activities, including fire drills, life safety procedures, evacuation support, and other building safety initiatives.
Operational Support
- Support contractor and vendor access, escorting, deliveries, inspections, and scheduled maintenance activities, and follow-up as required.
- Maintain accurate records by updating the organization's work order and task management system, documenting completed work, reporting deficiencies, and identifying follow-up actions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the safe and effective operation of the Miles Nadal JCC.

- Some duties and responsibilities may change or be added from time to time, provided such changes are reasonable and consistent with the nature of the role.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in room setups, event setups, facilities, maintenance, property operations, building services, general repairs and maintenance, or a similar environment is preferred.
- Experience with room setups, event setups, room turnovers, work orders, basic A/V equipment, and building operations is an asset.
- Willingness and ability to learn from experienced building operators and develop broader facility operations skills over time.
- Experience supporting cleaning follow-up, contractor or vendor coordination, building presentation, or event readiness is an asset.
- Experience using work order systems, setup calendars, building systems, or similar digital tools is an asset.
- Strong practical problem-solving skills and ability to respond quickly and calmly to urgent situations.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction and as part of a team.
- Good oral and written communication skills and ability to work professionally with staff, members, clients, contractors, cleaning vendors, visitors, and the public.
- Relevant equivalent experience will be considered. Canadian experience is not required.
- Facilities, maintenance, or building operations background is an asset.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
Working Conditions
- The successful candidate must be able to meet the physical demands of the role, with or without accommodation, which include frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and moving furniture, equipment, and event materials. The role also requires moving equipment, preparing meeting and event spaces, operating basic A/V equipment, and performing other physically active tasks throughout the workday.
- Work may involve exposure to varying temperatures, noise, cleaning products, dust, wet environments, and other typical facility operating conditions.
Salary and Benefits
- Annual salary range: $46,000 to $51,000, commensurate with experience.
