The Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Downtown Courtenay Business Improvement Association and reports to the Board of Directors. This position requires a detailed orientated person who can also focus on the big picture and accomplish large tasks while maintaining admin details. You must be able to work with limited supervision, achieve results and deadlines while being creative and diplomatic.
In this position your tasks include but not limited to the following:
Marketing and Events:
- Organize and Implement Events including two major annual events - Market Day and The Comox Valley Christmas Parade. Both of these events require additional responsibilities leading up to the event in addition to on-site supervision on the day of the event).
- Implement external and internal communications on behalf of the BIA including but not limited to social media, marketing, website content, press releases and e-newsletters
- Promote a positive image of the BIA/Downtown Courtenay as a desirable area to visit, invest, conduct business and live
Administration:
- Support BIA in executing their vision and strategic plan
- Maintain membership directory
- Organize board meetings and AGM including preparation of agenda and minutes and supporting documents as well as report on meetings throughout the month
- Attendance to all BIA events, board meetings and committee meetings (some evening and weekends)
- Budget Preparation and execution
- Various other duties assigned by board
Advocacy/ Relationships:
- Create and maintain relationships with associate members, local government and community partners
- Awareness and research of local issues affecting DCBIA members and taking action when deemed appropriate
Requirements:
- Strong leadership skills
- Superior oral and written communication skills
- Excellent knowledge of marketing and promotions including social media and website content
- In – depth knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Able to demonstrate sound judgment and problem solving skills
- Flexible and responsive to changing conditions/demands/hours with the ability to work independently and as a team with the board and members
- Experience in an administrative environment with a non-profit organization an asset
Compensation for this contract position is based on 30 hours per week.
