MAX Performance | Remote | Independent Contractor | $40/hour
About the Role
MAX Performance tutors work 1:1 with student-athletes in a virtual setting, helping them stay on track academically while balancing demanding athletic schedules. Sessions are delivered through Google Meet, and tutors are expected to create a supportive and focused learning environment.
This role is ideal for experienced tutors, teachers, teacher candidates, or strong subject-matter experts who enjoy working with busy, motivated students.
Subjects Needed
We are open to tutors across all subjects and grade levels up to Grade 12. However, we are especially interested in tutors who can support STEM subjects, including:
- Math
- Science
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Physics
- Advanced high school courses
French and bilingual tutoring abilities are considered an asset, but are not required.
Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging 1:1 virtual tutoring sessions through Google Meet
- Support students from various grade levels up to Grade 12
- Adapt tutoring strategies to each student’s learning needs, confidence level, and academic goals
- Use a digital writing/drawing tool when helpful, especially for math and science sessions
- Communicate clearly and professionally with the MAX Performance team
- Maintain reliable availability and session preparedness
- Support students who may be busy, hyperactive, or balancing significant athletic commitments
Requirements
- Previous tutoring, teaching, or academic support experience required
- Strong subject knowledge in one or more academic areas
- Reliable laptop and internet connection
- Access to a digital drawing/writing tool, such as an iPad, tablet, touchscreen device, drawing pad, or other effective digital tool
- Ability to tutor virtually in a clear, engaging, and interactive way
- Strong communication and organization skills
- Located in Canada or the United States
- References and application required
Preferred Qualifications
- Qualified teacher or teacher candidate
- Experience supporting high school students
- Experience tutoring STEM subjects
- Experience working with student-athletes
- Comfort supporting students with ADHD or high-energy learning styles
- Weekend availability, though not required
Availability
Tutors set their own availability, but we request a minimum of 10 hours of availability per week.
Ideal availability is between 3:00 PM and 9:00 PM EST, Monday to Friday. Weekend availability may be helpful in some situations but is not required.
Tutors can expect approximately 4–12 hours per week, depending on student needs, subject fit, and tutor availability.
Our key tutoring months run from September to June, and successful applicants would ideally begin around September.
Compensation
$40/hour for live tutoring time.
A 15-minute prep window may be offered when required.
