Pakenham Community Early Learning Centre is looking for an enthusiastic summer student to join our childcare team! In this role, you will work alongside experienced educators to plan and implement a playful learning program for infant to school age children. You will gain experience working with others, interacting with families and children, and developing plans to facilitate children's learning within a play based environment. This position starts June 15, 2026 and ends on August 28, 2026.
Duties:
- Following direction of and working in collaboration with other staff, ensure a high-quality and developmentally appropriate environment.
- Participating in ongoing reflective practice both individually and as part of a team.
- Provide diligent supervision of the children in a manner that fosters the physical, intellectual, emotional and social wellbeing of each child.
- Support children in developmentally and socially appropriate risk taking, while ensuring a hazard-free environment.
- Modeling appropriate behaviour (and social interactions) using appropriate language and voice tone.
- Knowledge of and able to follow direction for emergency procedures: fire drills, lost child and release of child.
- Follow daily routines to take advantage of embedded learning opportunities. Use child’s/children’s interest to plan meaningful activities and scaffold experiences.
- Provide an environment that allows for a balance of active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, and individual/group activities.
- Follow the daily schedule that incorporates child-directed activity and care routines with minimal transition times.
- Give children opportunities to experience their own and other’s culture and value system.
To qualify for this position, you must hold a current Standard First Aid and CPR (C) certification. You must also be 18 years or older and provide a clear criminal reference check for the vulnerable sector.

Pay: $19.69-$21.69 per hour
