About Totally Toronto Art
Totally Toronto Art is a Toronto-based e-commerce business founded in 2014 by Pamela Johnston. The business sells wall art, prints, posters, mugs, tote bags, throw pillows, magnets, cards, postcards, notebooks, and stationery featuring original artwork by Toronto artists David Crighton, Rob Croxford, and Andrey Shmatnik. Most products are made in Toronto. We sell through three channels: our Shopify store, Etsy, and Faire.com for wholesale.
What we are looking for
We are looking for someone who is genuinely on their way. You don’t need to have done everything in this job description — but you need to show us you understand the world of e-commerce, that you learn quickly, and that, once you are confident you know what you are doing, you don’t wait to be told what to do next. You will be working directly alongside the owner, Pamela, as a genuine partner in the business.
A note on how we work together
Pamela knows this business inside and out — the products, the suppliers, the customers, and what it takes to keep it all moving. But she is also the founder, and founders get pulled in six directions at once. What this role requires is someone who brings their own organizational system and uses it to keep both of you on track.
If you are the kind of person who naturally creates structure around themselves and the people they work with, and you find satisfaction in being the organized one, this role will suit you well. It’s an opportunity to be mentored and learn the e-commerce business and become part of growing it.
The Role
The role has two sides. The digital side — managing the online store, product listings, email marketing, social media, blog content, and SEO — is done remotely and runs throughout the year. The operational side — order fulfillment, inventory tracking, and supplier pickups — is done in person at our office at 151 Yonge St and varies with the season. TTA’s wholesale buyers typically order a month or two ahead of the summer tourist season and Christmas, so fulfillment volume builds well before those periods. Retail sales are quieter in the first quarter and grow through the second half of the year.
Hours range from 15 per week in the quietest period to 30 at peak times. We will always give you as much notice as possible when volume is about to increase.
This is a part-time employment position. All source deductions — income tax, CPP, and EI — are handled by the employer. You will receive proper pay stubs and a T4. This is not a contract or freelance arrangement.
DutiesE-commerce store management — core responsibility
- Manage and maintain the Totally Toronto Art Shopify store on an ongoing basis, ensuring products are accurately listed, priced, and presented
- Write, update, and optimize product descriptions for both search engines and conversion — using the TTA brand voice, not generic copy
- Review and improve existing product listings across Shopify, Etsy, and Faire.com so they are consistent, accurate, and compelling
- Monitor the store for errors, broken links, out-of-stock items, and anything that would affect the customer experience
- Keep product photography, titles, tags, and descriptions aligned and current as the product range evolves
Digital marketing — remote, ongoing throughout the year
- Review AI-generated blog posts, emails, and social media content before scheduling or publishing, checking for brand voice, accuracy, and quality
- Maintain and update the content calendar across email, social media, and blog channels
- Monitor SEO performance using Google Search Console and other tools, tracking keyword rankings and organic traffic
- Pull weekly and monthly performance reports from email, social, and sales platforms and prepare a plain-language summary for the owner
- Support the ongoing improvement of email sequences including abandoned cart, welcome, and post-purchase flows
- Flag issues proactively — a typo, an off-brand tone, an underperforming metric — before they become larger problems
Fulfillment and inventory — in person at 151 Yonge St, varies with the season
- Pick up finished inventory from Q-Print and other local suppliers as required
- Package orders carefully and accurately and prepare them for shipping
- Coordinate with Canada Post and other couriers to get orders out on time
- Maintain a simple and accurate count of stock on hand
- Flag low stock levels to the owner before they become a problem, with enough lead time to reorder
What You BringE-commerce experience — a plus
- Demonstrable experience working with an e-commerce platform — Shopify strongly preferred. You understand how a product listing works, how inventory connects to a storefront, and how an online store is managed day to day.
- Experience writing or editing product descriptions, web copy, or online listings. You know the difference between copy that converts and copy that sits there.
- Familiarity with at least one online sales channel — Shopify, Etsy, Amazon, Faire, or similar. Experience across multiple channels is a strong asset.
- Understanding of basic SEO as it applies to product listings and web content — keywords, metadata, search visibility.
Digital marketing skills
- Experience with or strong working knowledge of email marketing platforms such as Klaviyo or Mailchimp
- Comfortable creating or managing social media content for a business
- Able to read and interpret basic performance data — open rates, traffic, conversion — and summarize what it means in plain language
- Experience with Google Analytics or Google Search Console is an asset
Personal qualities — this matters as much as experience
- A roll-up-your-sleeves personality. You see what needs doing and you do it. You do not wait to be asked twice and you do not need hand-holding. This is the single most important thing we are looking for.
- Self-directed and reliable — you manage your own time, flag issues early, and follow through without being chased
- Naturally organized — you create structure for yourself and bring it to the people around you. You are the person who knows what needs to happen next.
- Strong written English with a natural feel for tone. You will notice when something sounds wrong before anyone tells you.
- Comfortable switching between digital work done remotely and physical fulfillment work done in person
- Genuinely interested in Toronto, local creative work, or small business. This brand has a real voice and a real story. The right person will feel it.
- Experience with a small or independent e-commerce business — whether as an owner, employee, or close collaborator — is a significant asset. Age is not. What matters is whether you are the kind of person who gets in, figures it out, and makes things happen.
Students and recent graduates
We welcome applications from students and recent graduates. If you are building your career in e-commerce or digital marketing and can show us real curiosity and hands-on initiative — through a side project, a placement, your own shop, or anything else — we want to hear from you.
A note on pay and employment
Many part-time roles are offered as contract or freelance arrangements, which means no tax deducted at source, no CPP, no EI, and often a difficult April. This is not that.
As a part-time employee of Totally Toronto Art, your income tax, CPP, and EI will all be deducted and remitted on your behalf. You will receive pay stubs and a T4. There will be no surprise tax bill.
A note from Pamela
I have been running Totally Toronto Art since 2014 and I know this business inside and out — the products, the suppliers, the customers, and what it takes to keep it all moving. What I need now is not someone I have to teach. I need someone who already gets it, who brings their own sense of order to the role, and who wants to be part of something real.
If you have worked in e-commerce, know your way around Shopify, and want to join a small Toronto business that genuinely means something — part-time, flexible, and working directly with the founder — I would love to hear from you. You won’t be expected to know everything on day one. What I need is someone who is curious, capable, and willing to figure things out — and who will grow with this business over time.
