General Excavation Labourer – Civil & Residential Construction

Our Client is currently looking for a hardworking, reliable, and experienced General Excavation Labourer to join our team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, thrives in outdoor environments, and takes pride in contributing to high-quality civil and residential excavation projects.

What You’ll Be Doing
Typical Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with site preparation, excavation, grading, and backfilling operations
- Perform manual labour including shoveling, raking, sweeping, and compacting soil and gravel
- Install and maintain underground utilities including:
- Storm systems
- Sanitary systems
- Water lines
- Electrical conduits
- Communication conduits
- Set grade using laser levels, string lines, and grade stakes
- Assist with placing and compacting road base, subgrade, and granular materials
- Install culverts, catch basins, manholes, and drainage systems
- Perform trenching and ensure proper bedding and backfill around utilities
- Operate small equipment and tools such as:
- Plate compactors
- Jumping jacks
- Cut-off saws
- Skid steers
- Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment
- Perform demolition and removal of asphalt, concrete, and underground infrastructure
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe worksite
- Follow project drawings, site plans, and supervisor direction
- Spot for equipment operators and assist with safe machinery movement
- Perform traffic control and pedestrian safety duties as required
- Complete daily inspections of tools and equipment
- Follow all company safety policies and occupational health & safety regulations
Residential Experience Includes
- Foundation excavation and backfilling
- Utility service installation (water, sewer, hydro, gas)
- Driveway preparation and gravel placement
- Drain tile and perimeter drainage installation
- Septic system excavation
- Landscaping preparation and final grading
Civil Experience May Include
- Road construction and rehabilitation
- Underground utility installation
- Sidewalk, curb, and gutter preparation
- Stormwater management systems
- Municipal infrastructure projects
- Subdivision development
What We’re Looking For
- Previous excavation, construction, or civil labour experience preferred
- Ability to work in physically demanding outdoor environments
- Strong understanding of construction site safety
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Reliable transportation to various job sites
- Valid driver’s license considered an asset
- Experience operating small equipment is an asset
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic
