Nature of the Position
The District of Sechelt is seeking a casual Parks Labourer to help keep our parks, streetscapes, and community spaces healthy, safe, and welcoming. This is an ideal opportunity for individuals who enjoy working outdoors and are looking for flexible, occasional work—whether you are semi-retired, self-employed, or balancing other commitments. You’ll be part of a small, supportive team focused on getting the work done safely and efficiently while enjoying the outdoors.
Reporting to the Manager of Community Services and working under the direction of the Parks Foreman, the Parks Labourer performs field, garden, trail and pathway maintenance, watering, general cleanup including collection and disposal of garbage from park receptacles, and supports construction tasks. This role offers the satisfaction of seeing the direct impact of your work in the community every day.

Required Competencies
Qualified applicants must:
- Have Grade 12 completion (or equivalent)
- Have two (2) years of experience in general construction labour, or similar work
- Hold a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence with a clean driver’s abstract
Applicants must also demonstrate:
- A professional, positive, and responsive work attitude
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- The ability to interact professionally and courteously with the public
- The ability to safely and competently operate a variety of garden and power tools, tractors, mowers, watering equipment, and vehicles up to one (1) ton
- Comfortable performing physical work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, with duties that include lifting moderately heavy weights, walking, and operating equipment
Preferred Competencies
Previous experience in landscaping, gardening or grounds maintenance is preferred. Experience working in a municipal government environment would be considered an asset.
Working Conditions
This is a casual unionized position within the BCGEU. Wage for the position is set at Grid Level 4, $29.88 – $34.52 (2027 rate), plus 9.8% of the straight-time pay in lieu of vacation, benefits and other paid leaves. There are no guaranteed hours and shifts will be offered on an as-needed basis.
