Quality Assurance Manager – Commercial Bakery Manufacturing

About the Role
We are a growing commercial bakery manufacturer seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Manager to lead our food safety and quality systems. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for maintaining the highest standards of food safety, regulatory compliance, and product quality while managing all aspects of our Quality Assurance program.
The successful candidate will have a proven background in food manufacturing, strong leadership skills, and extensive experience managing GFSI-recognized food safety systems such as SQF or BRC
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Quality Assurance department and QA team.
- Maintain and continuously improve the company’s SQF or BRCGS Food Safety Management System.
- Ensure compliance with CFIA regulations, customer requirements, and applicable food safety legislation.
- Develop, implement, and maintain SOPs, policies, work instructions, and quality documentation.
- Oversee HACCP, prerequisite programs, allergen management, environmental monitoring, sanitation verification, traceability, and recall programs.
- Prepare for and lead third-party, customer, and regulatory audits.
- Investigate customer complaints, non-conformances, and corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
- Monitor product quality through inspections, testing, and trend analysis.
- Train and mentor employees on GMPs, food safety, sanitation, and quality procedures.
- Work closely with Production, Maintenance, Purchasing, and Operations to ensure food safety and quality standards are consistently met.
- Maintain all QA records and documentation in accordance with regulatory and certification requirements.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to food safety, quality, and operational excellence.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in food manufacturing quality assurance.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a Quality Assurance Manager or equivalent leadership role.
- Direct experience managing SQF or BRC certification programs is required.
- Strong working knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, SOP development, CAPA, allergen control, sanitation, traceability, and food safety regulations.
- Experience leading internal, customer, CFIA, and third-party audits.
- Excellent documentation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and employee coaching abilities.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and electronic quality management documentation.
- Post-secondary education in Food Science, Microbiology, Quality Assurance, or a related discipline is preferred.
