Position summary:
The Clinical Educator supports excellence in nursing and interprofessional practice by acting as a clinical leader and practice resource across adult inpatient and specialty outpatient programs. The role focuses on advancing high-quality, patient-centered care, with an emphasis on improving outcomes, patient and family experience, and ensuring care delivery is safe, effective, and evidence-informed.
Working across programs and disciplines, the Clinical Educator strengthens care delivery by supporting the integration of evidence-informed practices into day-to-day clinical workflows. This includes providing real-time practice support, coaching, and mentorship to ensure that standards of care are consistently applied across diverse clinical settings.
As a key member of the Professional Practice team, the Clinical Educator collaborates with nursing, allied health, and medical staff to enhance practice consistency, team functioning, and care coordination. The role supports both regulated and unregulated health professionals in building competence and confidence within an interdisciplinary model, enabling team members to practice to their full scope.
The Clinical Educator plays a critical role in aligning clinical practice with organizational priorities, professional standards, and regulatory requirements. They contribute to the implementation of practice change initiatives, quality improvement efforts, and strategic priorities that impact patient care across the continuum.
Through this work, the Clinical Educator fosters a culture of practice excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement, strengthening the organization’s ability to deliver coordinated, safe, and high-quality care across the patient journey.
Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:
- Certificate of registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- BScN or equivalent
- Masters in Nursing or equivalent preferred
- A minimum of five (5) years recent related clinical experience
- BCLS certification
- Experience in clinical program development and evaluation
- Experience in providing evidence based clinical education based on adult learning principles
- Relevant experience in providing clinical education utilizing adult education principles and evidence based practice
- Preferred clinical expertise in adult inpatient care and specialty outpatient services, including acute medicine and ambulatory specialty clinics (e.g., oncology, vascular, diabetes)
- Strong foundational knowledge of core nursing practice, including assessment, clinical decision-making, care planning, and management of patients with acute and chronic health conditions
- Experience supporting nursing orientation and onboarding, including development and delivery of general orientation, core skills training, and transition-to-practice supports for new and transferring staff
- Demonstrated ability to support nurses in managing patients with complex and co-morbid conditions, requiring coordination across disciplines and care settings
- Knowledge of organizational policies, clinical guidelines, and best practices relevant to adult inpatient and specialty care (e.g., clinical deterioration, medication safety, infection prevention and control)
- Experience developing and delivering standardized education, competencies, and foundational nursing practice supports across inpatient and outpatient settings
- Demonstrated expertise in patient and family education to support safe care, self-management, and transitions across the care continuum
- Proven ability to collaborate with clinical teams, educators, and leadership to support consistent orientation processes, practice alignment, and integrated models of care
- Demonstrated commitment to best practice, nursing standards and life-long learning
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrated strong critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills
- Demonstrated leadership, negotiation and facilitation skills
- Current knowledge and experience with quality improvement processes, LEAN training preferred
- Demonstrated intermediate ability to use related information systems (Meditech, Microsoft Office)
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a self directed manner as well as the ability to work in a collaborative practice model with an interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
- Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients, families, colleagues and physicians
