The Summer Outreach Lunch Program is a partnership between the Lakelands Public Health, Kawartha Lakes Food Source (KLFS), Community Care CKL and The Salvation Army Lindsay. While this position is administered by KLFS, the successful candidate will be based at The Salvation Army and report directly to the Community Ministries Coordinator.
This program provides nutritious, pre-packed lunches to elementary-aged children at multiple locations throughout Lindsay and the surrounding rural area. The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing, organizing, and distributing these meals, helping to ensure children have access to healthy food throughout the summer months.
This position is ideal for a student or young professional interested in community services, food programs, or hands-on experience in a nonprofit environment. Training, including safe food handling, will be provided.
Responsibilities/Duties
As part of this role, you will:
- Prepare and package lunches according to a set menu
- Bake healthy snacks and treats following provided recipes
- Grocery shop and/or coordinate ordering of ingredients
- Ensure all food preparation follows safe food handling practices
- Clean and sanitize kitchen spaces, dishes, and equipment daily
- Transport food and supplies to distribution locations
- Set up and support lunch distribution in a safe, welcoming, and respectful manner
- Track and record lunch distribution numbers
- Work independently to manage daily tasks and timelines
- Other duties as required to support program delivery
Qualifications & Skills
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with multiple responsibilities
- Willingness to complete a Safe Food Handling course (training provided)
- Baking or kitchen experience is an asset
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Access to a reliable, insured vehicle on distribution days is required
- A vulnerable sector check is required
Hours and Work Environment
Work will take place primarily in a kitchen setting at The Salvation Army, with regular travel to community distribution locations. This role includes food preparation, cleaning, and lifting, as well as interacting with children and families during lunch distribution.
