About the Role
Stanford College is seeking an experienced and passionate Advanced Cook Instructor to deliver high-quality instruction in our Cook Advanced Diploma Program. The successful candidate will prepare students for careers in the culinary industry by providing engaging theoretical instruction and practical, hands-on training in a professional culinary lab.
The ideal candidate is an experienced culinary professional who enjoys mentoring adult learners and is committed to helping students develop the technical skills, professionalism, and confidence required to succeed in commercial kitchens.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver classroom and practical instruction in accordance with the approved Cook Advanced Diploma curriculum.
- Teach both theoretical and hands-on culinary courses, including:
- Food Theory (Basic and Advanced)
- Food Preparation Principles
- Culinary Techniques
- Baking Techniques
- Nutrition and Specialized Diets
- Food Safety, Sanitation, and Hygiene
- Culinary Math
- Cost Control
- Menu Planning
- Quantity Food Preparation
- Culinary Display and Presentation
- Sustainability and Food Ethics
- Communication and Supervision
- Demonstrate professional culinary techniques and industry best practices.
- Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, and practical demonstrations.
- Evaluate student performance through assignments, practical assessments, examinations, and observations.
- Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and student progress records.
- Provide academic guidance, coaching, and constructive feedback to support student success.
- Ensure all culinary lab activities comply with health, safety, sanitation, and food handling regulations.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and fully functional culinary laboratory.
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, and professional learning environment.
- Participate in faculty meetings, curriculum reviews, and continuous program improvement initiatives.
- Support students in developing workplace readiness and professional culinary standards.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, or a related field.
- Red Seal Cook (Cook Certificate of Qualification) is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of recent industry experience in commercial kitchens, restaurants, hotels, institutional food service, or catering.
- Previous teaching, training, mentoring, or instructional experience is considered an asset.
- Thorough knowledge of:
- Commercial food preparation
- Baking techniques
- Menu planning
- Food costing and inventory control
- Nutrition and specialized diets
- Food safety and sanitation regulations
- Current Food Handler Certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and online learning platforms.
- Ability to motivate and support adult learners from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching in a private career college or post-secondary institution.
- Experience with hybrid and online instruction.
- Knowledge of Ontario career college standards and adult education principles.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $25.00-$40.00 per hour
