IT Infrastructure & Systems Specialist

About the Role
A&L Canada Laboratories is looking for an IT Infrastructure & Systems Specialist to join our growing team. Reporting to the IT Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring our employees have reliable, secure, and efficient technology to support their work across our laboratories and office locations.
As the technical specialist on a two-person IT team, you'll provide end-to-end IT support while managing key business systems including Microsoft 365, user accounts, devices, and core IT infrastructure. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges, improving processes, and making a meaningful impact across the organization.
What You'll Do
IT Support & Helpdesk
- Provide first and second-level technical support for employees across multiple locations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, email, file access, and user account issues.
- Prioritize and manage IT support requests to ensure timely resolution.
- Support onboarding and offboarding by creating, modifying, and removing user accounts and system access.
Microsoft 365 & Systems Administration
- Administer Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, and user accounts.
- Manage permissions, licensing, and security settings.
- Monitor system performance and ensure critical services remain operational.
Device Management
- Configure, deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and peripherals.
- Ensure devices remain secure, updated, and compliant with company standards.
IT Security
- Assist with cybersecurity initiatives, including account security, access management, phishing response, and data protection.
- Respond to security-related incidents and help maintain a secure IT environment.
Process Improvement & Automation
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks and improve IT processes.
- Produce reports and maintain accurate technical documentation.
- Support system improvements and technology integration following acquisitions.
Network & Vendor Support
- Provide basic network troubleshooting and infrastructure support.
- Coordinate with software and hardware vendors as required.
- Support business and laboratory applications by managing user accounts, permissions, and vendor communications.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience providing IT support or systems administration in a business environment.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 administration.
- Experience supporting Windows computers, laptops, and mobile devices.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
Schedule & Working Conditions
- Location: On-site at our London, Ontario office.
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Occasional evening, weekend, or after-hours work may be required to perform system maintenance or respond to critical IT emergencies.
- May be required to lift and move computer equipment (up to approximately 40 lbs / 20 kg).
- Some work is performed in laboratory environments and requires adherence to laboratory safety procedures and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Compensation & Benefits
