Position Summary
The Apprentice Cook is responsible for the preparation of food for Calgary Stampede’s diverse food operations. They will prepare a variety of dishes efficiently while maintaining superior quality and consistency. Apprentice Cooks will have basic knowledge of the menu, will be capable of operating a variety of kitchen equipment, stock and date their stations when necessary, and ensure work areas are clean and items are properly stored in accordance with Alberta Health standards.
Roles and Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
- Ensure superior food preparation, quality and presentation
- Basic menu knowledge and attention to detail for all prepared foods
- Ability to support opening/closing duties and prep lists created by Sous Chefs
- Support a work environment that promotes teamwork, performance feedback, recognition, mutual respect and employee satisfaction
- Assist with the cleanliness of all kitchen areas on a daily basis in accordance with the Calgary Stampede and Alberta Health Services standards
- Support food costs by utilizing recipes and controlling the amount of food items that are prepared for each event
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Ability to prioritize, organize and follow through specific instructions
- Previous experience in a similar culinary role is required
- Alberta Food Safety Certificate
- Minimum 18 years of age
- High School Diploma is preferred
Working Conditions
Occasional lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs., continuous arm, hand and finger movements; crouching, kneeling, reaching and bending; exposure to dust, fumes, gases, odors and animal dander. Visual and color acuity required.
