Position Title: Accounting Assistant
Program /Team: Administration and Finance
Hours of Work: Permanent Full Time - 35 hours p/w Monday to Friday
Bargaining Unit: Unionized (BCGEU)
Salary: $29.17 per hour – Grid 12, Step 1
Location: Douglas Avenue, Victoria
Department Overview – Administration and Finance
The Administration and Finance department at the Garth Homer Society plays a key role in ensuring organizational stability and efficiency in support of our mission to empower individuals with diverse abilities. The team, led by the Director of Finance Administration, oversees financial management, budgeting, human resources coordination, and administrative operations. We are committed to transparency, ethical standards, and regulatory compliance through accurate financial reporting, effective resource stewardship, and streamlined administrative support. Guided by our values of integrity, accountability, and collaboration, we promote teamwork and communication to uphold inclusion, respect, and dignity across the organization.
Skills and Abilities
Successful applicants will demonstrate excellent computer skills, strong interpersonal and organizational abilities, and the capability to prioritize tasks effectively while working both independently and as part of a team.
Education and Knowledge:
- Grade 12 plus a minimum of three (3) years of experience in an accounting or financial position, preferably within a Not-for-Profit sector.
- Completion of a two-year recognized accounting program OR;
- Equivalent accounting training as part of a post-secondary Business & Commerce program may be considered.
Training and Experience:
- Three (3) years recent, related Canadian experience.
- Experience working with Canadian accounting protocols.
- Experience with both accounts payable and receivable processing and monitoring
- Experience in reconciliations, month end processing.
- Experience with cash management (Treasury Functions)
- Experience in processing journal entries
