The role of the Program Officer is to coordinate accreditation reviews of continuing teacher education programs in Ontario. This involves facilitating the development of course guidelines and leading the accreditation review of additional qualification courses and programs. The Program Officer fosters a relational approach with Additional Qualification course providers, enhancing their understanding and compliance with accreditation standards.
Responsibilities:
In-Service Accreditation and Course Review:

Conduct comprehensive reviews of additional qualification courses and programs to facilitate accreditation

Ensure the accreditation process aligns with educational standards and regulations
-
Meet regularly with course providers to provide feedback, support the accreditation process, and identify adjustments to ensure compliance

Apply a quality assurance framework to evaluate and report on accredited courses
-
Review governance documents from additional qualification providers to ensure regulatory compliance
Development of Course Guidelines and Professional Standards:
-
Facilitate the development and cyclical revision of additional qualification course guidelines and professional standards
-
Collect, analyze, and synthesize data to inform guidelines
-
Analyze provincial feedback on additional qualification courses and assess alignment with regulatory requirements

Participate in special projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and timelines
Consultation and Liaison:
-
Maintain current knowledge of issues and trends in teacher education and professional accreditation in Ontario and other jurisdictions
-
Stay up to date with policy changes, research developments, and emerging trends to ensure informed decision-making
-
Conduct focus groups to gather input on course and program effectiveness from diverse educational partners
-
Prepare presentations, reports, briefing notes, issue papers, literature reviews and research summaries

Foster relationships with Indigenous and French Language communities to support the integration of the standards and teacher education initiatives.
People and Culture:

Foster a team-oriented environment by actively participating in meetings and contributing to discussions

Maintain open communication channels with unit colleagues ensuring smooth workflow and project progression
-
Collaborate with colleagues within and across departments to support the College mandate
-
Promote capacity-building and training for external reviewers to support a consistent review process
Presentation and Communication of Unit Work:

Prepare responses to College correspondence and inquiries
-
Provide quality assurance documents to inform the Standards of Practice and Education Committee’s decision-rendering processes

Develop and deliver presentations to external partners to promote engagement with the professional standards
Other duties

Support in intra/interdepartmental projects as assigned

Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager and/or Director.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
-
Minimum 10 years of successful teaching experience
-
Membership in Ontario College of Teachers in good standing
-
Initial teacher education degree and/or equivalent and its pre-requisites (i.e., undergraduate degree, technology pathway, Indigenous ancestry pathway, Indigenous language pathway)
-
Bilingualism is considered an asset

Current and relevant experience in:
-
Teaching and mentoring in the Ontario K-12 context
-
Educational program review and/or curriculum development
-
Facilitation of professional learning, training and reflective inquiry with adult learners
-
Educational Leadership (e.g. Department Head, Curriculum Coordinator, school or system administrator, supervisory officer)
-
Project Management
-
Practical experience in any of the following areas is considered an asset:
-
First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit education
-
Indigenous and/or Indigenous language teacher education
-
French language teacher education
-
Technological education
-
Pre-service teacher education
-
Additional Qualification course instruction
-
Strategic organization and time management skills to safeguard operational efficiency and accountability (e.g., meeting legislative timelines)

Skilled facilitation of both synchronous and asynchronous work in a virtual environment

Written and oral language proficiency to facilitate engagement and communication with providers and members of the College
-
Ability to critically analyze various documents, including legislation, research, and course submissions
-
Attention to detail to ensure accuracy and integrity of communication

Ability to manage difficult conversations with course providers

Collaboration with diverse groups of educational partners
-
Ability to proactively identify and resolve issues by interpreting regulatory information

Adaptive and responsive to implementing new technologies

Experience analyzing and applying relevant sector legislation and policies
