Job Summary:
The General Assembly Technician is responsible for assembling HVAC units such as air conditioners, heat pumps, and dehumidifiers on the production line. This includes mechanical assembly of components, sub-assemblies, and final unit build-up in accordance with engineering drawings, quality standards, and production targets.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Mechanical Assembly
Assemble HVAC unit components such as:
- Compressors, coils (evaporator & condenser)
- Fans, blowers, and motors
- Sheet metal panels and structural frames
- Perform fastening, alignment, and fitment of parts using hand and power tools.
2. Sub-Assembly Operations
- Build sub-assemblies like fan decks, drain pans, brackets, and control box housings.
- Ensure proper fit, alignment, and dimensional accuracy.
- Prepare assemblies for next-stage operations (piping, wiring, testing).
3. Work Instructions & Drawings
- Read and follow assembly drawings, SOPs, and work instructions.
- Identify components as per Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Ensure correct part usage and avoid mix-ups.
4. Quality Assurance
- Perform in-process quality checks during assembly.
- Ensure proper torque, alignment, and finishing.
- Identify defects or non-conformities and report to supervisors.
- Support rework if required.
5. Material Handling
- Handle components and assemblies
- Use basic material handling equipment (trolleys, lifts if applicable).
- Ensure proper storage and staging of parts.
6. Tools & Equipment Usage
- Use tools such as screwdrivers, torque wrenches, drills, riveters, and fastening tools.
- Maintain tools in good working condition.
- Follow calibration requirements for torque tools.
7. Production Targets
- Meet daily/shift production targets.
- Work efficiently within takt time and assembly line flow.
- Support line balancing and productivity improvements.
8. Safety & Housekeeping
- Follow safety procedures and use PPE (gloves, safety shoes, etc.).
- Maintain clean and organized workstations
- Adhere to company safety and environmental policies.
9. Continuous Improvement
- Participate in lean manufacturing initiatives.
- Suggest improvements in assembly processes.
- Support reduction of waste and defects.
Required Skills & Competencies:
- Basic knowledge of mechanical assembly and tools.
- Ability to read simple engineering drawings.
- Good hand skills and attention to detail.
- Teamwork and communication skills.
- Understanding of production line discipline.
Experience:
- 1–3 years in manufacturing or assembly line environment (HVAC preferred).
- Forklift experience.
