Role Overview
We are seeking a versatile individual who is not only technically skilled but also a passionate outdoor enthusiast with an interest in forest ecology. This role is responsible for managing the technical water systems, infrastructure, and safety of the Church Ranches parklands with pride and passion, treating the land as your own.
The ideal candidate is a "Jack-of-all-trades" who possesses strong handyman skills, can self-manage a diverse task list and understands the balance of maintaining a community outdoor space while living and working alongside wildlife without interference. You will be one of a two worker self-managed team working under the direction of our homeowners’ directors and utilize our digital task management system to log data and track your daily stewardship of the land.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Environmental Stewardship & Wildlife
- Ecological Awareness: Apply an understanding of forest ecology to trail maintenance and vegetation management.
- Co-existence: Practice and promote "leave no trace" principles; ensure all work is performed with minimal disruption to local wildlife.
- Wildlife Management: Oversee the respectful removal of deceased animals, ensuring the Board and residents are notified for awareness while maintaining the natural balance of the park.
2. Grounds Maintenance & Sanitation
- Mowing/Trimming: Tractor mow pathway edges and hand mow designated areas.
- Weed Control: Pathway spraying of weed encroachment; weeding, grass cutting and prune 6 entrance locations and 8 island locations.
- Waste Management: Emptying of 7 dog waste bins and disposal at the landfill.
- Trail & Beach Care: Maintain runoff trails, perform leaf blowing, fallen tree cleanup and rake beach sand/remove garbage.
3. Water Systems & Lake Management
- Technical Operations: Maintain lake levels using digital monitoring system, assist in RVWC Raw Water Purchases and operate lake water transfers as required.
- System Maintenance: Participate in the Spring start-up, Winter shutdown and periodically exercise all water valves.
- Monitoring: Perform regular lake water testing and apply treatments.
- Carp Control: Participate in population reduction of Prussian Carp
4. General Trades & Handyman Services
- Fleet Care: Perform basic maintenance on small machines; coordinate dealer servicing for the Tractor and UTV
- Carpentry: Perform minor repairs to park structures. Stain/seal park benches and wooden signage.
- Electrical: Troubleshooting and basic maintenance of indoor or outdoor electrical components (as permitted).
- Painting/Finishing: Touch-up painting of park assets and features.
- Infrastructure: General "fix-it" tasks to keep park assets in top condition.
5. Security: Vigilance & Authorized Access
- Passive Observation: Maintain constant awareness of park usage during your shift.
- Active Engagement: While the role is primarily passive, you are required to act if you suspect unauthorized use. This includes professionally verifying residency and asking non-residents to leave the private property.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Nature-Centric Mindset: A genuine interest in the outdoors and forest health; experience in ecology or environmental land management is a significant asset.
- Self-Directed: Highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks independently and maintain the "curb appeal" of the community.
- Communication: Ability to be professional and firm when enforcing park rules or educating residents on wildlife protocols.
- Trade & Technical Skills: Experience with operating machinery (tractors/pumps), basic electrical and carpentry
- Digital Literacy: Proficiency using a smartphone for task tracking and data entry.
- Logistics: Valid driver’s license and ability to haul waste to the landfill.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to perform medium intensity manual labor.
Contract Schedule
Peak Season (May–Oct): Approximately 2–3 days per week.
Off-Season (Nov–Apr): Much reduced hours, occasional for snow clearing, winter maintenance and clean up.
Applicants will be required to provide a boat license (PCOC), minimum First Aid level l, Police Information Check (PIC), proof of WCB Coverage, and liability insurance of 2M. Corporate Registration preferred. The successful applicant will operate as an independent contractor, remuneration range $35-40/hr according to experience
Pay: $35.00-$40.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
