Heartland Agency is committed to providing high-quality programs that help all children, regardless of circumstance, reach their full potential. We are currently seeking Day Care/Preschool Cook to join our team at the Mayland Heights Location (1625 18 Street NE) and Signal Hill/Barlow (6127 Barlow Trail SE). This position starts August 24, 2026.
Responsibilities:
- Menu planning and preparation of daily meals for approximately 75-80 children (depending on location) in accordance with guidelines under the Canada Food Guide; meals should be creative, and appeal to a diverse range of children
- Ensure quality of food and determine size of food portions
- Plan and assist in the purchase of weekly groceries to menu plan for the week; work within a designated budget in line with a not-for-profit agency
- Collaboration with staff on ways to include children in the cooking process to allow hands-on learning
- Maintain a clean, organized food service areas to ensure Health & Safety standards are met
- Full cycle kitchen duties which include planning, cooking, plating, dishes
- Related duties as assigned by the Manager
- Work as a team player with staff
Qualifications:
· Previous culinary and baking experience; Red Seal certification and/or related education preferred
· Valid Food Safety Certificate
· Current criminal record check (including vulnerable sector check)
· Current first aid certification (can be obtained upon hire within a designated time frame)
Has or willing to obtain Childcare Certification
· Ability to work with minimal supervision
You will receive 10 days of paid vacation per contract year to be used during Christmas and Spring Break.
