The Role
Fortis Construction Group Inc. is seeking an intermediate accountant to join our team. The successful candidate will have 3+ years of experience in the construction industry with bookkeeping and job costing responsibilities, supporting and reporting to our Executive team.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- maintaining portfolio's of various investment interests
- Various office administrations duties including bookkeeping, payroll, HST and other government filings for several businesses
- Leadership and management of day to day accounting and cash management including cash flows, projections, account analysis, reconciliations, and journal entries
- Trusted to provide sound financial advice about the company’s needs and options
- Monthly closings and financial statement preparation for multiple entities. (15+)
- Compliance including annual reports and business licenses, personal property and misc, taxes, and liaison with tax accountants.
- Risk management for all required insurance coverages
- Sales reporting and percent rent calculations
- Responsible for annual budgeting, financial forecast and analysis. Review all financial plans and compare with actual results.
- Special financial related projects as needed
Qualifications:
- College/University Degree and MBA or professional accreditation such as the Canadian chartered professional accountant (CPA) designation
- 3 years+ relevant experience
- Leadership skills, ability to be objective
- Organizational and problem-solving skills
- Extensive computerized accounting experience
- Extensive knowledge, proficiency and adaptability with various computer programs including Jonas, Word, Excel, e-mail, etc.
- Articulate in reading, writing and presentation
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
- Flexible, Reliable and willing to work non-standard business hours as needed to ensure assigned tasks are completed on time
- Knowledge in Sage Simply accounting, payroll, Accounts Payable and monthly bank reconciliations is considered an asset
