About the Position
The Memory Care Aide enriches the daily lives of our memory care residents by supporting meaningful programs and activities that address their social, physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual needs through a person centered approach.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Lifestyles Manager, Manager of Care, and the care team to assist with the delivery of the Metta Memory program and support Memory Lite activities. They will focus on engaging residents throughout the day, building positive relationships, and helping maintain a safe, welcoming, and supportive memory care environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the implementation and ongoing delivery of memory care programming that supports residents’ social, physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual needs
- Support the Metta Memory program and Memory Lite activities under the direction of the Lifestyles Manager and care leadership
- Work collaboratively with nursing, dietary, housekeeping, and other departments to support a positive and engaging resident experience
- Assist with preparing communication materials such as activity calendars, notices, posters, and newsletters for residents and families
- Encourage and promote resident participation in daily activities and programs
- Create and maintain a safe, pleasant, and engaging environment within the memory care neighbourhood
- Observe residents throughout the day and report changes in mood, behaviour, routines, or participation to the appropriate team members
- Respond to resident and family questions or concerns promptly and escalate when needed
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with residents, families, visitors, volunteers, and team members
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum of two to five years of related experience in retirement living, long term care, or a healthcare environment, with direct experience supporting individuals living with dementia or Alzheimer’s
- Dementia Care Certificate, GPA certificate, or equivalent is required
- Current First Aid and CPR certification is an asset
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage compassionately with residents and families
- Ability to support and facilitate group and one on one activities
- Strong organizational and time management skills in a fast paced environment
- Demonstrates patience, empathy, and a genuine understanding of the needs of memory care residents
