POSITION SUMMARY:
The Business Intelligence Lead is a senior member of the Data & Analytics Team at The Royal and is responsible for enabling data management, analytics, and business intelligence initiatives. This role supports effective data-driven decision making aligned with the organization’s strategic goals by working in close collaboration with clinical and corporate leaders. The incumbent provides mentorship and supervision over the activities of other members of the team in the development of data and advanced analytics solutions to ensure the development of high-quality analytics products.
DUTIES:
- Oversee the development of advanced data models, data visualizations, and advanced analytics solutions that translate complex data into actionable insights and align with stakeholder needs, organizational objectives, and digital health initiatives.

Champion data literacy by supporting change management, training, and adoption of BI tools among non-technical stakeholders.

Engage internal stakeholders to gather requirements, develop key performance and clinical indicators, prioritize projects, and deliver BI solutions that support patient outcomes, resource optimization, and evidence-informed decision-making.

Provide leadership, mentorship, and direction to the Data & Analytics team as a senior member of the team, promote best practices, ensure effective delivery

Champion data governance, monitor and audit data quality, oversee BI system operations, ensure external reporting compliance (CIHI, MOH, OHA), and compliance with privacy and security regulations (PHIPA, FIPPA), while promoting continuous improvement.

Participate in the design and development of enterprise data architectures including database management systems and data warehouses, and establish data standards, governance, and security protocols to ensure data integrity, accessibility, and protection.

Evaluate and adopt emerging BI and analytics technologies (e.g., AI/ML, predictive analytics, cloud-based platforms) to drive innovation and improve analytics capabilities.

Maintain expertise in database architecture, data integration, and storage technologies; oversee operational support including backup, recovery, infrastructure maintenance, and access/change control processes.

Validate and monitor data models, analytics deployments, and data extracts to ensure accuracy, consistency, and performance using tools such as Epic Caboodle, Epic Cogito, Power BI, Fabric, SSRS, SQL, and Power Query; apply statistical and data profiling methods to ensure data quality.

Support BI system implementations, upgrades, and enhancements, and provide services across The Royal’s multi-site organization, including Ottawa and Brockville locations.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Undergraduate in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Health Informatics, Business, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.

Minimum of 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in business intelligence, data management, or analytics roles, preferably within healthcare or complex organizational environments.

Experience with healthcare data systems, standards, and regulatory environments is a significant asset (preferred).

In‑depth knowledge of performance management and measurement tools, techniques, and frameworks.

Strong knowledge of data governance, data quality assurance, and compliance frameworks.

Expertise in database development, BI/dashboard/report development, and troubleshooting complex data issues.

High level of technical proficiency with the Microsoft SQL Server Business Intelligence (BI) stack, including Power BI, Power Query, DAX, and Fabric, to develop innovative data management and analytics solutions.

Proficiency in Epic suite of BI tools including Cogito and Caboodle (preferred).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems and concepts.

Basic knowledge of project management principles and methodologies.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify problems, develop solutions, and produce clear, well‑structured documentation.

Experience developing comprehensive documentation, training materials, and reference guides.

Familiarity with healthcare security and privacy legislation (e.g., PHIPA, HIPAA).

Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills to guide and support staff effectively.

Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment requiring rapid on‑the‑job learning.

Salary Range:
$58.63 to $67.97 per hour
