Break into agriculture procurement with one of Western Canada's leading pork processors.
North 49 Foods is looking for a Hog Procurement Assistant to join our Moose Jaw team. This is a hands-on, learn-as-you-go role for someone who wants real exposure to livestock supply chain, producer relationships, and data-driven decision making, not a desk job where you watch from the sidelines.
You'll work directly with our Hog Procurement team, learn the full lifecycle from booking loads to settlement reporting, and build a skill set that opens doors across the ag industry.
What you'll actually be doing
- Scheduling and tracking hog loads from booking through delivery
- Verifying delivery accuracy: trucking, arrival times, site info, PIDs
- Running daily, weekly, and monthly procurement reports
- Digging into hog probing data to spot trends and flag issues
- Preparing settlement reports to make sure producers get paid accurately and on time
- Supporting on-farm producer audits and compliance checks
- Covering for the procurement team during vacations and absences
- Building real relationships with producers, suppliers, and CFIA contacts
What you bring
- A degree in animal science, ag business, ag economics (or similar) preferred, but 2 years of relevant experience works too
- Strong Excel skills and comfort learning new systems
- Sharp analytical thinking, you're not afraid of numbers, ratios, and data
- Solid written and verbal communication
- A valid driver's licence and reliable transportation (you'll be visiting producer farms)
- Comfortable working around livestock, in all weather, with all the smells and noise that come with it
- TQA certification, or willingness to get certified after hire
The environment, straight up
This isn't a climate-controlled office job. Expect heat, cold, noise, and the occasional 50 lb lift. If you want a role where you're outside your comfort zone learning something new every week, this is it.
Why North 49 Foods
You'll get direct mentorship from an experienced procurement team, exposure to every level of livestock sourcing, and a genuine path forward in one of Saskatchewan's most stable industries.
Must be 18+, legally authorized to work in Canada, and able to communicate effectively in English with producers, CFIA officials, and team members.
