Reporting to the Director of Design, the Design Lead will be responsible for, but not limited to:
Norstar Industries Ltd. is a family-owned manufacturer located just outside of Rosenort, MB. At Norstar, we build conveyance equipment for the agriculture, agri-industrial and industrial markets. Norstar prides itself in providing market-leading products that are exceptional on every level. To do this, we need an exceptional team! We are now seeking an experienced DESIGN LEAD to join our Design team.
Project Management:
- Receive project priorities and direction from the Director of Design; assign design and drafting projects to the drafting team
- Establish clear project milestones, timelines, and due dates using visible tracking tools such as Gantt charts
- Conduct daily progress reviews with team members to ensure timelines are met and provide weekly progress reports to the Director of Design
Design Team Oversight:
- Conduct daily check-ins with each team member to monitor workload, offer support and resolve issues
- Provide hands-on design guidance, technical support and constructive feedback to help team members produce high-quality work.
- Menor team members to foster professional growth and team cohesion.
- Conduct annual performance evaluations for all drafting staff.
- Collaborate with HR and the Director of Design in the recruitment and hiring of new drafting team members.
Facilitate Design & Stakeholder Communication:
- Assist the Director of Design in organizing and facilitating project meetings that include the design team, sales, production and company management.
- Ensure that all relevant stakeholders are aligned on project goals, timelines and feasibility.
- Receive project priorities and direction from the Director of Design; assign design and drafting projects to the drafting team.
Design Quality Control:
- Work alongside the Director of Design to establish, refine and enforce Norstar’s design protocols and documentation standards
- Communicate design standards to the drafting team and ensure ongoing compliance
- Conduct regular design reviews to verify that all work meets quality, functionality and manufacturability standards.
Requirements
- Completion of a Mechanical Technology program would be a strong asset
- Previous experience with 3D CAD Design and Autodesk Inventor. Note: AutoCAD experience alone will not be sufficient enough for this position.
- Experience in management or supervising a team is required
- Experience with grain handling equipment a strong asset
- Strong computer skills (specifically within MS Office programs and Autodesk Inventor)
- An understanding of basic manufacturing principles. Previous manufacturing and design experiences will be considered an asset
- Ability to work as part of a team or independently in a busy environment
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- Able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Strong attention to detail
