Position Summary:
The Mate is responsible to maintain the appearance of the vessel which includes directing daily activities of the crew, maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the vessel, and assisting with navigating and maneuvering the vessel; will uphold the strictest safety standards for guests and crew; and will maintain a professional and friendly manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide amazing hospitality to guests and coworkers as prescribed in our RESPECT Service System
- Assign deck crew tasks and provide direction
- Stand bridge watch and assist in the safe navigating and maneuvering of the vessel
- Take command should Captain become unable to
- Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the vessel
- Load or unload materials from vessels
- Handle lines to moor vessels to pier when necessary
- Stand watch to look for obstructions in a ship's path or to locate navigational aids such as buoys and lighthouses
- Provide assistance to Marine Technician to operate and maintain ship equipment such as engines and generators, and winches
- Escalate any mechanical or maintenance issues to the Director, Marine & Facilities or Manager, Marine Operations.
- Be prepared to begin work at scheduled time
- Maintain uniform and personal grooming in compliance with appearance standards
- Additional job duties as assigned
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Must obtain valid Chief Mate (limited for a vessel of 60 gross tonnage) or more upon hire
- O.S.S.D. or equivalent as recognized by the Ministry of Education
- At least one (1) to three (3) years’ maritime experience
- Current Marine Basic First Aid
- Current (within previous two (2) years) Transport Canada approved marine medical certification
- Must hold a valid passport to be able to enter the United States
- Must be able to effectively understand and convey written and verbal information to guests and coworkers
- Energetic and enthusiastic personality essential
- Must be service orientated, actively looking for ways to help others
- Will work for extended periods of time without sitting
- If required, wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e. non-slip shoes, gloves, weather appropriate dress attire, sun protection)
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, pull, move or lift up to 30 pounds (14 kilograms)
- Walk, stand, sit and work in all types of weather conditions for extended periods
- Will be required to be available for work on all major holidays
