The Role
The Shipper-Receiver plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth flow of materials and goods within the organization. They are responsible for coordinating shipments, receiving incoming materials, and maintaining accurate records. This position requires attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Shipping:
o Determine the most efficient method of shipment for outgoing goods.
o Prepare bills of lading, customs forms, invoices, and other shipping documents
manually or using computer systems.
o Assemble containers and crates, record contents, and pack goods securely for
transportation.
o Affix identifying information and shipping instructions to packages
o Oversee the loading and unloading of goods from trucks or other conveyances
o Track and monitor all customs release entries
Receiving:
o Inspect and verify incoming goods against invoices or other documents.
o Record shortages and reject damaged items.
o Unpack received goods and route them to appropriate storage areas.
o Maintain accurate records of received materials (files and entries into the company's ERP system).
Inventory Management:
o Assist in maintaining inventory accuracy.
o Update inventory records using manual or computerized systems.
o May operate forklifts, hand trucks, or other equipment to load, unload, transport,
and store goods.
Collaboration:
o Work closely with other departments, including production, purchasing, and
quality control.
o Communicate effectively with suppliers, carriers, and internal teams.
o Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in shipping, receiving, or warehouse operations preferred.
- Powerlift/forklift certification is an asset.
- Training/certification in handling dangerous materials (TDG) is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects.
- Proficiency in using computer systems for record-keeping.
Highly Desirable Requirements
- Beneficial to have knowledge of the shipping of metal powders or similar products.
- Having certifications in material handling, logistics, or supply chains.
- Willingness to grow with the organization.
- Ability to perform well in a fast-paced, problem-solving startup environment.
Physical Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work in both manufacturing and office settings.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. safely and independently.
- Ability to perform well in a fast-paced, problem-solving startup environment.
Work Environment:
- Manufacturing facility with exposure to warehouse and loading dock environments.
- May involve standing, lifting, and moving throughout the day.
