Mining is at the forefront of the global economy, supplying the critical minerals needed for infrastructure, technology and the energy transition. The Mining Tax practice provides specialized tax services to a diverse range of mining and mining royalty companies, from early-stage exploration companies to senior producers with complex global operations.

As a Senior Tax Manager, you will work closely with Partners on complex tax planning initiatives and client engagements. Your leadership and technical expertise will enable you to oversee engagement teams, review the work of junior professionals, and deliver high-quality tax advice and compliance services. You will also play an important role in developing team members, strengthening client relationships, and contributing to business development efforts within the Mining Tax practice.
What you will do:
- Lead tax engagements for mining and mining royalty clients across planning and compliance mandates

Collaborate with Partners on complex tax planning initiatives and strategic client matters

Manage engagement teams in the preparation and review of corporate tax returns and related filings

Conduct and present tax research to support client planning opportunities and technical positions

Review work prepared by junior team members to ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality

Advise clients on Canadian income tax matters and emerging issues affecting the mining sector

Mentor and develop staff through coaching, performance feedback, and knowledge sharing

Drive business development initiatives and contribute to the growth of the Mining Tax practice
What you bring to this role:
- Minimum 5 years of experience specializing in Canadian income tax within a public accounting firm or industry environment, preferably serving mining or other extractive sector clients

CPA designation or equivalent

Completion of, or significant progress toward, the CPA In-Depth Tax Course, or a Master of Taxation (MTax) degree

Strong technical knowledge of Canadian income tax and tax planning strategies relevant to the mining sector

Proven experience leading client engagements and managing multiple competing priorities and deadlines

Demonstrated ability to build trusted client relationships and deliver exceptional client service

Strong people leadership skills, including coaching, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams

Excellent project management, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to confidently address complex technical matters
KPMG Ontario Region Pay Range Information
The expected base salary range for this position is $125,000 to $175,000 and may be eligible for bonus awards. The determination of an applicant’s base salary within this range is based on the individual’s location, skills & competencies, and unique qualifications. In addition, KPMG offers a comprehensive and competitive Total Rewards program.
