Tru is seeking a User Experience Designer (Mobile App Specialist). We have one (1) permanent position available for an immediate start.
Location:-
This role is hybrid, providing some flexibility to work from home. However, candidates must reside in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and be prepared to attend in-person meetings as required. Occasional travel to client sites or workshops may also be necessary.
Position Overview:-
The User Experience Designer (Mobile App Specialist) will focus on designing and optimizing mobile app experiences that extend and enhance our core digital ecosystem. This role will apply our evolving design system to native mobile platforms (iOS and Android), ensuring that our apps deliver a best-in-class, accessible, and intuitive experience.
Working closely with the design system team, engineers, and product partners, the Mobile App Specialist will adapt and extend system components for mobile contexts, ensuring that design principles remain consistent while leveraging the unique capabilities of native mobile frameworks. This role will also explore opportunities to create richer, app-native interactions and features that go beyond what is possible in mobile web experiences.
Key Responsibilities:-

Apply the enterprise design system to mobile app experiences, ensuring consistency across iOS, Android, and responsive web environments.

Collaborate with engineering teams to implement and test components using native framework.

Partner closely with the Design System team to contribute mobile-specific components, documentation, and design tokens.

Conduct usability testing and incorporate feedback to refine mobile experiences for performance, accessibility, and user delight.

Work with content and product teams to translate business goals into seamless mobile user flows and interactions.

Maintain alignment with third-party design partners, ensuring mobile app designs stay consistent with Sobeys’ brand and design system standards.

Collaborate in Figma using shared libraries and mobile-specific variants to maintain parity with the broader design system.

Stay current with mobile design trends, accessibility standards, and emerging technologies to drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications:-

Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field.

5+ years of experience in UX/UI design, with a strong focus on native mobile applications.

Proficiency in designing for iOS and Android platforms, with knowledge of respective design patterns and accessibility standards.

Experience implementing design systems in Figma, including creation of mobile variants and components.

Familiarity with mobile app frameworks such as React Native, SwiftUI, or Jetpack Compose.

Strong collaboration skills with developers to ensure design intent is maintained through implementation.

Excellent visual design, interaction design, and prototyping skills.

Experience conducting usability testing and applying user insights to inform design decisions.

Portfolio demonstrating mobile design expertise and examples of work with design systems.
